She wasn’t killed; Starlight just set into motion an entirely different future set of events by knowing about the Butterfly effect.

Starlight wasn’t punished because it would have put her in the same position as Luna was with the Tantabus.
They can’t move pass what they did so they would use punishment as a copping mechanism, that when they’re punished enough they can come to terms with their mistakes.
But there will never be enough, then the punishment turns to self harm, helping no one.
the entire point of Twilight taking Starlight as her student was Twilight not fully trusting her. they treated her differently because she didn’t act like a dick or smug like Discord and Trixie did.
Yeah pretty much! Like imagine screwing up the timelines and trying to ruin the life of a group of ponies and receiving no repercussions.
I do hate how she was reedemed, compared to Discord and Trixie, who Twilight did not fully trust, Starlight was fully trusted immediately after her reformation, I am fine with the reformation but maybe do not forgive her so damn quickly without any punishment, she even was ready for one so you know, maybe give her one?
