Then after she said that Rainbow Dash would make a bad sister, some fans decided to intentionally misinterpret it as “Rainbow Dash would be abusive” and made lots more Scootabuse images.
@Background Pony #72C4
Plus, fun fact, Rainbow and Scootaloo were never supposed to have that cute sister relationship according to Lauren. Lauren didn’t think Rainbow was mature enough. The later show runners who took over the characters decided to develop Rainbow into a more mature mare and establish that relationship.
@AdmiralQ
Nope. Characters are owned in whole by Hasbro alone. Thus, why the characters have stayed in the show for nearly a decade after she moved on from Hasbro.
She created an outline, a show bible that any future show runners had a choice to follow or not.
She had no control over anything once she left.
For one, Twilight was never to become an alicorn when she was the show runner, but surprise she did.
@AdmiralQ
That is a very inaccurate view if her role.
She created the 4th generation. Then she made one season. Then she left. She doesn’t even watch the show anymore.
So, no, she really doesn’t have the final say, sorry.
@CronoM
Hmmm
Alright, excellent points!!
I will still say that I believe the idea of Twi outliving her friends has alot more to do with symbolic meaning and writer intent than it being intended to be canon.
This was the writing crew’s farewell to characters they certainly loved, and it is important to remember that as much as we love and really claim Twi, her friends, and Equestria as our own, we share that desire with the writers and creators.
The epilogue was some serious meta, both for our fandom having to welcome a future generation of fans, and their message to the next generation of MLP and future writers. Even if things change and age, never forget friendship.
Most of these writers have moved on to our knowledge. This was their goodbye.
Maybe if that farewell was the last of FiM, I would say it is canon that Twilight will outlive her friends.
However, with a new season being written for comics, and a spin-off chibi series coming out, along with a possible G4 movie, I think this may not last as canon. The comics and show are all focusing on some point after her ascension to the throne, but before the epilogue. With new writers and creative minds, canon will doubtless change, just like the change from Twilight staying mortal to her being immortal. So far, we haven’t seen anymore of older Twilight, or her friends. I kinda hope it stays that way to be honest. This was such a touching episode, and so far out in the future, it wouldn’t hurt to see it remain a touching farewell from the creative staff we got to know.
While they were vague about all three, Cadence, Luna and Celestia, especially the sisters, Celestia DID confirm that alicorns are not born from natural birth before Flurry Heart.
If Celestia and Luna were also exceptions, her dialogue would of been different.
And Cozy proved one could brute force yourself into alicornship just by using overwhelming amounts of magic instead of a flawed ritual.
Cadence has that semi canon book of fighting a witch. The semi canon journal of two sisters has the sisters already as teenage alicorns, so still no clues there. The only hints about Celestia’s ascension were from the EG prequel book with young Sunset, and that one line of Sunset’s from the EG1 movie, which suggested, or at least hinted, alicornship could be granted to dimension travelers who wielded the elements of harmony.
