None of that ever gets brought up in the show. According to the leaks the staff considers Starlight Twilight’s first student, not Sunset. This is nothing more than a nod, not something to be taken in big earnest.
She’s the new Celestia, that’s why.
Sci-Twi had no relevance in Princess Twi’s story, only showing up after Pri-Twi had delegated her role to Sunset.
Sunset was the 1st test of Twi’s merits as princess, the first she redeemed, (Luna was magic, Trixie didn’t stick until S6), and her first student. She does have relevance here.
Maybe after nearly a decade we have such expectations nothing could realistically (within the timeframe of a musical, the mistake they made with Starlight’s redemption) meet them?
the whole scene was gravelly underwhelming for me. I don’t know why, but they could’ve done better with this scene. :/
