The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

^ Never gonna happen. The dragons besides Spike are all jerks, that was the point of Dragon Quest. Plus, during the migration we didn’t see any dragons Spike’s size so I’m going to have to say there isn’t one his age.
Background Pony #9A8E
This went right past friendzone into little brother/baby nephew/cuddly pet zone… something like that. Too bad Spike, now go and meet some nice dragon your own age.

^
here let me lay it down for you
>Dash makes him question his masculinity
>Rarity doesnt like this and tries to cheer him up by treating him in a way not unlike how she has treated him before
>she goes too far
>she thinks these are genuine compliments because they are what she (and the other ponies)personally love about Spike
>Spike realizes he doesnt know anything about being a real dragon
>this was in a Merriwether episode which tend to have these exaggerated character actions (MMDW, PYHD)

Solved.

Also, this is a discussion. Simply because our viewpoints differ doesn’t mean we’re arguing. Things would have to get heated for that to happen.

^ There’s not really. Impious said that it made little sense based on what happened earlier and some ideas were tossed around on why she acted that way. Differences in race, gender, and maturity aside, it is simply puzzling that Rarity doesn’t understand that treating a guy with a crush on her like he’s three is a good idea. She is allowed to fuck up, but she’s not socially awkward Twilight or overly blunt Rainbow Dash, she’s Rarity who has shown skill in reading other ponies emotions in the show.

You seem to think we’re dogpiling on Rarity’s character, that’s not the case. We’re simply discussing a puzzling action that was thrown in as a plot trigger.

asserting some vague displeasure makes no sense to me* Not sure why I forgot that…
@Impious
He dressed himself like that. It was never suggested that he was forced to wear that, it was implied that the apron belonged to him.

^Incredibly difficult, oh my god. I never said she’s incapable, Im simply saying that she is allowed a fuck up.

Fact of the matter is, he’s a guy and she lives in a predominantly female society. Vaguely referencing that “he’s older than a baby” doesnt change that he’s younger than her developmentally, a different gender, and a different species. He isnt going ton have the same temperament as male ponies.
Furthermore, her knowing ‘how to deal with people romanitcally interested in her’ doesnt mean she’s had experience with them going through an identity crisis.

The fact that she’s emasculated him once, on accident, is hardly a big deal.

Besides, she’s called him Spikey Wikey before, she referred to him as a ‘little star’ back in S1 and done other “emasculating” things to him beforehand. The difference is now, Dash made him question his masculinity and Rarity responded by doing things that worked before in a situation that didnt call for it.

I explained the character insensitivity. She wanted him to feel better and went with an approach that worked before.

There’s nothing controversial about any of this, so arguing with me over it by asserting some vague displeasure

And as a final point, yea she’s very insensitive towards him. That’s why she initiates physical contact, consoled him after destroying Ponyville and kidnapping her, and wanted to follow him to make sure he is okay.

I guess I just dont understand why there’s such a problem with this.

^ Indeed, because it is incredibly difficult for Rarity to understand that emasculating Spike, who she knows has romantic feelings towards her, as being out of character. You keep pointing out that she doesn’t know how to act towards young boys, and while I won’t drag out the old chestnut about all the proof in the show about Spike is not as young as people seem to like portraying him as (And yes, baby dragon, as if being labelled as a baby of a species with millennial lifespans is the same as being a baby pony) I’m going to go ahead and assume she knows how to treat people with crushes on her. You also seemed to have missed the point where no one actually called her a bitch, just trying to figure out the cause to the out of character insensitivity in this scene due to the events of SoME.

^ Massive bitch problem? All that happened is she tries to cheer him up and fails.
Honestly, Dash is the one who actually insulted him and you guys are getting on Rarity’s case for misunderstanding what Spike is feeling and what feeling like a wimp is like. She’s a grown female pony, he’s a male baby dragon. If this is as far as misunderstandings go then Id say they are doing to damn fine job.
I could also always go the cheap route and point out that this episode was written by Merriwether, so of course it is going to have forced character traits for the purposes of moving the plot along.

^ Which still doesn’t resolve the massive bitch problem that arises if that is the case. I know a lot of people don’t like Rarity, but I do, and I see no reason to think she’s like that.

Spike clearly wasnt bothered by Rarity doing this because it was Rarity, he was bothered by not being taken seriously as a dragon.
I see it more as Rarity trying to make Spike see what she likes about him after Dash teases him.
It’s almost as if grown women dont relate well to young boys…

I’ve always taken it as Rarity trying to use cute pet names and failing. The fact is, she is simply not that big a bitch to go around emasculating someone who has a crush on her, especially not someone who is already a friend.

Since the Beginning -

I don’t know, she only started referring to him as Spikey Wikey after SoME, so if you take it that way this is after SoME.

well maybe it does take place after Rarity is at least trying to be more affectionate and protective of Spike in this episode…not in the best way mind you but still

This episode has to take place before Secret of My Excess. It has to. Rarity is far too kind and understanding a pony to do this to him after he up and bared his heart to her. She KNOWS he crushes on her, hard. If this takes place after that episode, then Sadistic Rarity is canon.
