It also helps that she’s quite old and had quite a lot of time to master her magic. Her son’s not nearly as good at magic, but he’s barely even a hundred years old. Give him a millennium or two and maybe he’ll master more than the most basic of sphinx spells :D

She’s a combination of both types of mythical sphinx: she’s the monster and plague from Greece combined with the deity protector of Egypt. I imagine she must have some pretty phenomenal powers :D

the Sphinx also pinned Somnambula’s wings too her sides so she couldn’t fly.

It’s interesting to see any take on what magic a sphinx can do. It was super duper vague, she put a curse on the pyramid and she conjured or teleported a blindfold. And I guess made a ball of fire around herself.
 
Hey that could be a cool idea. Maybe try a take on that since we only saw it in mural form? You haven’t really done a picture of her being scary. She was a tyrant after all.

Egyptian sphinxes were basically benevolent deities with unfathomable power, but the Sphinx in the show basically acts like the Greek sphinx, being a riddling malevolent monster. So I’ve sort of combined the two myths: they start out with little to no magic that steadily gets stronger the more they practice, but they’re also very long-lived. She’s been practicing magic for a very long time so she’s gained some powerful abilities :D

His normal hair is more or less the same, just shorter, when let down. Her spell made his hair grow quite a bit, and the heat and steam of her breath along with it growing undid his headdress and made it flop out loose :D
