Now get rid of that mare’s lifeless body into that nearby moat to drown her!!
Continuity error?
Yeah, the black spots not being removed and then removable didn’t bother me.
Well, cutie marks do represent a pony’s identity and source of power so those being stolen are a big deal.
Discord can only track it because of powerful beings and Tirek is careful and smart.
It wouldn’t be out of character if he knew everything, and was… withholding information again.
His last line of dialogue in the episode seemed to imply he knew more than he let on, in any case.
It wouldn’t be the first time they changed something like this, in any case, because unlike Twilight’s Kingdom, Luna’s black spots were part of her cutie mark in A Royal Problem (extremely forgivable though, since Luna’s cutie mark would’ve been… problematic on Celestia without it).
At least if it turns out to be a retcon (in later episodes), the loss of cutie marks didn’t actually affect the plot in Twilight’s Kingdom, did it?
Seems like that’s the case. Because if Tirek did go all the way and the ponies didn’t even check to look at the flanks, then the writers would be in serious shit with the fans.
When you’ve at least got muscles, power, and youth like he does by default now (courtesy of Grogar, for once), while still frustrating, it’s far more acceptable than going back to the “feeble old man” stage.
Plus, make no mistake, Tirek is definitely intelligent, so he is capable of doing the smart thing.
Edited
The fact that he gave up magic power that he stole twice is shocking
