one thing that helps is to draw a sine wave, like literally, and the shape and angle of the spine conforms to the sine wave when moving forward. this is especially true of fast movement like the gallop, where transferring force through the spine (sinusoidally) is vital.
 
so basically this
 
I can’t find a good still image, but the period of the sine wave’s gonna be 1 run cycle, and the amplitude I dunno depends on how bouncy the runner is supposed to look. so draw that then you just… have a template for exactly where you’re gonna draw the spine in any given frame!
