Yup I was actually in that article
chaotic evil?
If this were to occur again in another country – like Nigeria, India, or China, or even “multicultural” Malaysia – it would incur outrage for disrespecting their national people (e.g. Yorubas, Hindustanis, Han Chinese, Malays).
Ah yes, diversity. The practice of ensuring that there’s as little white people as possible in any major group. I remember reading an article about Apple firing a black woman who was in charge of their office of diversity or whatever because she said that having a bunch of white people in the workplace still makes it a diverse workplace on the grounds that they’ll have different facial features, ideas, languages, etc. It’s just a shame that Apple doesn’t agree that diversity should be more than just about skin color.
Lack of LGBT ponies (LyraBon is not enough) could be one reason, and lack of ponies/creatures with non-White voice actors is another.
That is from what I have seen in recent cartoons.
Edited
Zebras = reference to Africans
Hoofar = reference to the Middle East
Kirin = Chinese?
How exactly do you express different ethnicities when all the ponies and others involved are different colours, sometimes blue, purple and green? It makes absolutely no sense; I bet these people have never even watched the show.
I agree with you on that.
Yeah, the show started to wane for me when they introduced a Friendship school back in season 7. I didn’t care about a new cast of “young mane 6”. I only just watched “School Daze” a few weeks ago in August ’19.
At least it looks more classic and rustic. Constant diversity can get annoying.
And I am saying this as as Asian guy who doesn’t really care about diversity shmiversity. Anything goes as long as the nation still runs well and keeps its face up.
No. It became political when they changed an established tradition because of feels. THAT was blatantly political.
Eh, I don’t mind at all, I still like the show for what it is.
I’m done talking about this anyways.
You had Pilars, You had Starlight, Trixie, Discord, Thorax and Ember. You had soo many characters that were already established, yet show decided to add new characters, out of the blue. There has to always be a motive for that. It could be all sorts of things. With how past season went, I’d put it to bad decision making/bad writting, as we had alot of that in seasons 7-9.
I always thought the show was interesting regardless of who the cast was. Even when they introduced the Students, I never thought the show was getting stale and I thought it was a nice change of pace when they got introduced.
As to what’s their purpose and reason? My guess is to show that friendship can be applied into different creatures and to introduce a cast of different characters for people to relate to, and to get a sense of nostalgia to parallel the Mane 6 back in Season 1. And yeah, it sucks that the Pillars were wasted, but what can you do? I like the Students and you don’t have to like them, I’m just giving my reasons as to why they exist.
Show has somehow managed to not have a “Diverse main cast” for 7 seasons and still be interesting. Hell, best episodes of season 8 mostly did not contain Young 6. Handling diffrent races was always decent in MLP, it’s only now, in 2017/2018 they decided to add the “Diverse Main Cast”. In the day and age of progresive messages in media. Was there any need for Young 6? Was there any reason to do so? No. We just had an introduction on 6 legendary characters in S7 finalie. We could have they take on role of Young 6 learning about friendship.
Well that’s on them, because they have different writers and those are franchises that are aimed more towards the older crowd. And like I said, it ultimately depends on how you handle it without making it sound preachy, you’re pandering to one side or is strawmanning.
Haven’t you heard of the phrase “getting out of their doldrums”? The show shouldn’t just focus on ponies and since they’re introducing new species for diversity and to avoid it being stale, they have to do something with them. And wow, just a few episodes starring other nonpony species out of what, almost 200 episodes? You can just say that you don’t like the Students and that’ll be the end of it, nothing about pushing some diversity message.
You could claim the same thing with Doctor Who, Star Wars, Ghostbusters and any other franchise. People should know it’s a bad idea, yet they still do it, when they will lose viewers and money on that.
I’d approach it mainly from the title. Show is called “My Little Pony”. It’s given that it should be mainly about ponies. Now, you have episodes like “Uprooted” which had only 4 ponies and 5 other creatures in it. As I said, they can’t make this outright visible. I cannot just present to you a part of transcript or a moment in the show to prove that the message is there. They do it so you cannon “show proof” that the message is there. As long as there are 2 ways to interpret something, it could always be the second meaning that is true.
They do, even with a dud episode here and there.
@Bonklefan99
I know, I saw it.
@AWGear
I don’t see why they would do that in the first place since again, it’s a show about ponies and they’re smart enough to know that putting political messages in it is a bad idea.
That I get, it does have a multi-culturalism vibe with the Students, but I don’t see them preaching about it and saying it’s the most progressive thing. I just saw it as introduce a new cast of characters to show that friendship knows no boundaries.
It’s obvious that they wont outright state “ORANGE MAN BAD” (just example, they didn’t have a take at trump). If they would want to convey that message, they’d have to be more subtle. You could make an argument, that whole Young 6 was added to spread the “multi-culturalism” message.
See the quote from the Doctor I posted below.
The show has done it in a good way, so far.
@AWGear
It seems that now days we had accepted the propaganda like a normal thing and people has disguised as “political correctness in cartoons”.
