Tirek himself was active (as an adult) in those ancient times and yet even to him Grogar was just a legend he heard in his youth.

It’s a small thing, but to me he lived up to his reputation when he just looked at the cutie map and instantly zapped it to make it do something the cast had never seen before.

I loved that we got an explanation for how the Everfree was handled before the Tree of Harmony existed, and at the same time added to Star Swirl and the Pillar’s badass reputation.

I’d also like to note that all it took to finally get Celestia and Luna off their plots and into the field was this pony. For that,the fans (and Equestria) thank him.
 
That being said, I am very, very curious to hear any advice Stygian’s got after the last two episodes. We’re getting into serious Ancient Evils territory now, and for them, it was just history, not ancient history. Gusty’s Charge of the Unicorn Warriors wouldn’t be almost forgotten at that point.
