Let me explain, then. Blackjack is a wonderful character. She’s deeply flawed, funny, and I identify with her struggle. But the story is bad, it drones on and on, and always at her expense. With the horrible things that happen to her and her friends, you know the author is probably a sadist, or a rapist. There’s adding conflict to a story and then there’s simple cruelty.
 
There was… what? Ten chapters straight of Blackjack getting riddled with bulletholes, tumors, crippling injuries and eventually puss-ridden dicks? And it’s not going to end anytime soon.

Well… She is pretty much the fucked-up author’s torture toy, whose sole purpose is to be used to enact his darkest, most disgusting fantasies.
 
But there’s enough merit to her character that it’s painful to read and not the least bit enjoyable.
