I dunno, the swimming controls weren’t that bad IMO. They were kinda similar to SMB or DKC to me.
I don’t watch those guys, I learned to hate that game all on my own. The rest of the game isn’t bad, but that level was a sudden unexpected jump in difficulty and in a control scheme that none of the other levels had. It was a bad design and it deserves the hate. Wouldn’t surprise me if there was a hack of the ROM to remove it.
His friend Mike Matei even says they kinda regret that old episode feeling they contributed to making the game hated online.
It’s easier once you remember where the bombs are, or have a map.
Yeah, while I love this game more then the AVGN did, I admit that jump was annoying.
Ironically, the easiest thing in the game for me was defeating Shredder. I actually beat him the first time only using ninja stars. He never touched me once, but I hear he can kill you easily, especially with his retro-mutagen ray gun, but it’s easy to avoid as long as you keep a safe distance from him.

Thanks but I’ll stick with the modded Rom for the extra convenience.
I have the original, it’s not unplayable, (in fact, the cobat is actually quite easy compared to most Castlevania games) but you might need to Google some of the puzzles, and what the items do, as some barely have any hints.
Still, if I were to play Simon’s Quest, I would personally play the modded Rom that makes the text faster, the day and night cycle faster, and the NPCs speak normally instead of cryptically.
Yeah, in fact James, (the AVGN) actually admitted he liked “Simon’s Quest,” regardless of it’s flaws.
In fact, cryptic puzzles aside, it’s actually one of the easier Castlevania games, but it did introduce some important things to the series, and inspire the Metroidvania genre.
Keep in mind that the first TMNT game and Simon’s Quest were part of his first ten episodes. Looking back at them, they are way better and more structured games than most of the games he would eventually cover.
In fact, honestly I found the Technodrome interior area harder. Ironically, Shredder was actually easy, just use projectile attacks (like shurikens, or anything) and keep a safe distance from him, and his retro-mutagen ray gun.

Both games were made by Konami, whom always made hard games.
I think the AVGN was a li’l hard on it, considering other games he likes, such as the first Megaman are just as hard, and have cheap moments too.
