I don’t much care for the 3-D intergration. It cheapens the look of the show and while some here speculate that it is intentional(to create an “otherworldly” effect), I doubt that this is anything more than a shortcut taken by the animators.

Well, I hope this is just for timber wolves, this is probably having difficult animating the timberwolves so they use CGI on them.

Meh. I don’t much mind that they’re 3D. Sure, it’s not as smooth as the flash, but Season 1’s animation wasn’t much compared to Season 3’s (and Season 1 had good animation), so I’m sure they’ll get better about it with practice and exposure.

They do look off, I’m sorry to say, but they do, the style of animation just does not blend with the show. THAT SAID, what Tricorn King said does bring up an interesting point, which is to make something seem more unsettling in an animated film, animate it in a completely different way.

The creators of Courage the Cowardly Dog understood and used this brilliantly. Some of the most memorable scenes were primarily because of the way they were in a completely different style to the actual show. King Ramses is a good example because of just how unsettlingly otherworldly he seemed. Same with the completely 3D… fetus… thing which whispers “You’re not perfect.” Or that Claymation… thing that was playing the violin (though that could just be my innate fear of Claymation). Just a few examples, but it clearly shows the writers knew what they’re doing. As for here, well, I’m not completely sold on it, BUT a friend brought up a good point as I was typing this, it could also be because of how complex they look. When we first saw them, they only had a few frames to work on, here, they’re fully animated, and due to their rather complex design, it may have been easier for them to do, which I totally understand.

They look awesome. Best integration of Flash 2D animation and cel-shaded CGI 3D animation I’ve seen in a while, if you ask me.

I’ll have to agree with TricornKing, they probably made them in 3d to give them the “otherworldly” feeling. And you’ll see no complain from me, this is awesome!

They definitely are CG, but I think it works to their favor. Remember, the Everfree Forest is literally Equestria’s equivalent of many European “Fairy Realms,” where the laws of nature can go the exact opposite of the norm, and the animals and inhabitants are uncanny and “other”. So the idea of the Timber Wolves being CG in a 2D world helps emphasize just how “other” they actually are.
