When glory hounds and those with known prior achievements get put into a position of leadership, bad things tend to happen. I’d say Spitfire’s decision was justified, even though she unfortunately ended up choosing incorrectly

Bah. Funny as this may be, I’d still like to think that Spitfire put RD as wingpony just to test her.
 
She already knows Dash is a great flyer, and she knows that RD is used to flying solo or taking charge. Thus, the only thing really left to test is how well she can be a team player when she isn’t the one in charge.

Smart move, now Rainbow Dash’s competitive nature will push her to do better, keep her from being complacent.
 
The only way this could fail is if Lightning Dust is a nut job but really what are the chances of that.
