It could actually run a GUI quite nicely (2 Gigabytes of Ram and a dual Core Processor, Far more then enough.

If the Adverts were text based I would totally see them! No ad blocker! XD (Surfing the web isn’t really the point of a server anyway)  
Besides I quite like the way Derpibooru does ads. They are generally relevant and unobtrusive. If I used a blocker there would be an exception for this site. :)

He’s using Lynx or some other browser of the sort; it’s console only, so just text, no amount of refreshing will give him fancy formatting or images.
 
Also, my 8 year old Nokia loads the site and images. Given, thumbnails are about 3 times the screen size, but still, impressive for the old thing.

It should be possible to make a text-based browser which renders images as ASCII art. In fact, I’d be surprised if one didn’t already exist.

Using a text mode browser to browse an image site? Radical.
