When I see how Wonderbolt Academy ended I just want to puke.
I love executives sometimes. /s
The ending was at the middle of the week (supported by the three days Pinkie waited in front of the mailbox). Lightning Dust wasn’t expelled, just demoted. This ending happened near the end of the week, with Lightning growing a conscious during that time and accepting her new position as Rainbow Dash’s wingpony.
Really, this is Trixie all over again.
Even within the Academy, it wasn’t Lightning Dust’s “first” offense, just the most blatant. By the time they’re old enough to be allowed to enter the Academy, underlying behavior patterns are set. They’re supposed to know better, and have had any second chances already. (At least if it parallels RL.)
shrugI can understand why keeping it shorter made more sense.
Calm yo tits, I’m not saying that’s not canon or whatnot, just that not seeing it on screen gives a higher chance of the character returning, as it allows for a subplot of showing what happened to her.
That scene really help show the character development of Rainbow dash and can’t really picture lighting dust doing a complete 180 in personality if what she said before that scene with spitfire still happened.
SORRY! CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER ALL THIS CANON!
Really, this was her first offense, and it was a result of behavior that was previously encouraged. Demotion seems more realistic than expulsion.
But they didn’t have time, and they used what time they did have to make the episode at least part-way decent.
The episode was great, but this ending is better because really, it doesn’t actually change anything. Do you just not like getting closure?
Yeah, I like this ending a lot better. Actual closure.
Lightning Dust being redeemed would have made the whole “winning isn’t everything” message terrible because she would have gotten off relatively scott-free.
