In the context of the episode, though, this doesn’t make any sense. I’m pretty sure they even made their own lumber for the barn.
 
I really wish Obama had gone in the direction of “You didn’t teach yourself or raise yourself, you don’t make all the food for all of your meals, you didn’t design the car you drive, you are not an island of society,” because the speech he ended up giving made me physically cringe. He deserved a lot of the hate he got for that flop.

It’s odd that most people who make arguments “jokingly” do so for points they sincerely believe, and only call it a joke when they’re put to the test and found to be faulty. In fact, it’s much like they “joke” retroactively whenever they’re called out on their falsehoods. Or present their beliefs as “jokes” so they can doublethink that they’re true in some sense while insincerely admitting they’re wrong whenever they’re called out on it.

I like this, and I rather like the POTUS. This is funny. It’s simple ‘You didn’t build that’ became a meme (more political pundit meme than internet, but it was to an extent an internet meme too). Doesn’t matter the meaning, it’s a meme, it evolves. This did what a good use of a meme does, merge the meme with something that is unexpected. Irony people, it is the basis of most humor.

That’s the exact opposite of the truth. When people place humor over logic or decency, we end up with nonsense like this.

I’m not going to say anything about the politics behind this, but I really do think people need to learn to take a joke about Obama. Every president, no matter who, needs to be made fun of.

He was referring to the roads NOT the businesses. His point was not to demean the labor of business owners but to remind people that we are all interconnected. That investing in people and projects elsewhere will come back and help you out.

But he didn’t say that, BP. The quote was:  
“Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
 
It’s pretty clear in the context of the speech that he was saying that the education and infrastructure of society are an important foundation upon which businesses succeed.

People are STILL misinterpreting this?

Y’know, after seeing all the liberal brony propoganda during the election, this is actually kinda a breath of fresh air.  
I have nothing against the president, but I think he is honestly one of the most overrated presidents we’ve ever had, and I’m kinda tired of all the mindless worship he’s getting.  
(Plus, he’s had just as many screw-ups as Bush & Clinton.)
 
The joke is the president (who means well, but you guys have to realize he’s not “perfect”) said awhile back that the only reason people got anywhere, or made any progress in their personal lives is thanks to having the Government do everything for them, which isn’t true. (Unless all you do is mooch off Government pay-checks like Chris Chan does.)
 
While I don’t like mixing ponies with politics either, I honestly don’t think we need to worship the president, and this image does have a valid point.
 
Neither political party is perfect in the end, and Obama is not above being made fun of, or criticized. If you can laugh for hours about lame pictures of Bush with a Hitler mustache MSPaint’ed on, then you can just shrug this off if it bothers you.
