So, this one has a bit of a story.

The commissioner (Co for now) wanted a gift piece for a friend. This friend had helped them and quite a few others stuck in the midst of depression. Being prone to depression/anxiety myself, this was something that resonated personally. And they had written rather eloquently, and at length, about the personal significance and impact. So I happily took the piece on.

There’s a fair bit of symbolism Co wanted included so I’ll give as much detail as I can without the more personal info involved.

Co wanted the royal sisters mending the broken hearts of ponies and humans alike, represented as dolls. The younger two were to be helping out somehow in the back. Co also wanted my own oc somewhere in the image as they felt my art had helped them too. And lastly, they initially wanted their own oc in the bottom somewhere, still broken and needing more care than perhaps some of the others. They later decided against putting their own likeness but I tried to get across the same idea. Some folks need a bit more time and care and need to helped again and again, never permanently ‘fixed’.

When the piece was done, the friend couldn’t be contacted to be given this piece before it was posted. The friend is fine and well, just… not communicating. I do hope everything turns out okay for both Co and their friend.

Co’s original description for the piece:

“My Little Pony as a cartoon helped me cope with my depression and anxiety.

My friend along with Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Princess Cadence, Princess Twilight, the rest of the ‘Mane’ six and occasionally Prince shining armour……. hell, the entire cast of MLP!!! As characters, they inspired me to do better by others and to be a better person when I could afford to financially and emotionally. They helped keep me going when I wanted nothing more than to leave this world behind and their kindness and understanding is something that is sorely missing in this world of ours!!

They have mended my broken heart many times over and strengthened my once severely broken spirit and soul……I dare say that these characters have done much the same thing for many others. I honestly believe that they have saved the lives of countless others struggling with depression and anxiety!! More than their creators could ever really know.

I’m extremely fortunate that I can enjoy the show in my lifetime as I think it is truly something special created by someone truly special.

Artists like Silfoe, Amarynceus, Skybrushus (to name a few) create beautiful artwork and fanfics that bring these characters to life and in turn help make this difficult life a lot more bearable by giving us reasons to smile. Their artwork for the most part is free for everyone to enjoy and I hope that everyone who enjoys their work takes the time to thank them for it!! People like my friend and artists like Silfoe……They are some of life’s rarest gifts and therefore they should never be taken for granted!!

So with that all said…… this is essentially a gift to everyone who is struggling with life right now in the hopes that the happiness it portrays will rub off on you and brighten up your day.

Sometimes it’s just enough to keep you going.
