In that case, I blame resizing or compression issues. Sometimes the thumbnail size is copied over instead of the full resolution.

We are living in an era when even 90$ phones make decent photos. Heck, you can get good used camera or phone for fraction of the cost, so no, you cant play this card here. More than that, plushies are sort of expensive too…
