Since when is not caring about your bad actions when being confronted about it a new thing? Literally every antagonist there has ever been doesn’t care about their bad actions. They show remorse AFTER their reformation! Lightning Dust just hasn’t reformed yet, so she’s still where every single other antagonist was before they reformed.
Intentions alway matter or most of the Mane 6 would be in prison.
And her only intention is to give her audience a great show.
That comparison doesn´t even crawl.
Intentions are completely immaterial when it comes to attempted manslaughter or reckless negligence.
She didn’t care that she nearly killed several ponies.
She then put a child in an equally dangerous situation.
I cannot simplify this concept any further without the use of cave drawings. Do you defend drunk drivers too, or what?
P.S. being cautious and sympathetic is diametrically opposed to actively endangering the lives of your teammates and then bragging about how much danger you’re putting them in.
Edited because: Too much vodka, g'night
And now you are just making things up.
Killing anypony was never her intention.
Dusty the captain of her stunt team, not a sociopathic serial killer.
She is extremely sympathetic and just needs to be a little more cautious.
Fixed that for you. Also, Trixie and Wind Rider just wanted to win as well, and Starlight believed her philosophy would improve Equestria.
Basic writing 101, the villain thinks they’re doing the right thing.
The difference between a redeemable sympathetic villain and a despicable sociopath is what they do when confronted with the consequences of their actions. For instance, when Lightning Dust was confronted with the fact that she nearly killed several adult ponies, she basically said “meh” and decided killing children might be a bit easier.
I couldn’t agree more. She’s not an antagonist who wants to do horrid things to ponies, she’s just a bit reckless. Villains like Starlight or Trixie or Wind Rider have the intent of harming or doing something bad to a pony, but Lightning Dust doesn’t. She just wants to win, and just sometimes overlooks other ponies in the process. All she needs is to learn that safety is important. It’s not like she’s evil or cruel or nasty or irredeemable.

Not even close.
All what Dusty ever did in the academy is trying to improve her superiors.
Now she endangers only herself and those who volunteer willingly and know about the risks.
She is not the worst but the best of this “lot”.
All the other antagonists were perfectly aware of what they were doing, and didn’t give a single toss about it either, UNTIL THEIR REFORMATION EPISODES. Like I said, Lightning Dust just hasn’t HAD a reformation episode yet, so she hasn’t shown remorse either. That’s literally no different from any other reformed antagonist in the show.
It’s not entirely about what they did, it’s about acknowledging the damage they had caused and changing their ways. Every nonpossessed character you listed had a heel-face turn once they realized how destructive their actions were. By contrast, every character in OP’s image knew full well how wrong their actions were, had personally witnessed the consequences, then doubled down anyway.
Lightning Dust is easily the worst of this lot. After nearly killing several ponies, she not only gave zero fyays, but proceeded to wear her callous disregard for others as a badge of honor!
Edited because: Moar stauff. Too much vodka, halp!
Well, it’s not like Discord, Nightmare Moon, Tempest, Trixie, Starlight or any of the other antagonists showed remorse before their reformation episodes. Lightning Dust just hasn’t HAD a reformation episode yet, so of course she hasn’t shown remorse yet. She’s just as capable of reforming as the rest, in fact, a lot even more so, because she was once Rainbow Dash’s friend, they weren’t rivals from the start, and if you remember, broken friendships are always rekindled in MLP.

I did not remember this comment.
After all, it was 4 month ago.
No “try”.
@Ammit5
Jim Miller begs to differ.
If Dust still refuses to acknowledge that she put ponies in danger with her recklessness, then there’s no chance she’ll ever see any kind of meaningful redemption.
And frankly, I’m okay with her staying an antagonist. It feels like there aren’t enough of them on the show anymore.
Really? Then what’s this?
@genervt
Nice try.
Nightmare Moon, Trixie and Stygian were more or less possessed, though.
Well, what about Discord? (pun not intended) Or Nightmare Moon? Or Stygian, or Trixie, or Starlight, or Tempest Shadow? I think what they did was a LOT worse than Lightning Dust. They were bloodthirsty, power-hungry supervillains, for crying out loud! And you’re saying that they can reform and that Lightning Dust can’t?
Sociopaths never realize when they’re wrong, and in turn will never apologize for their actions. Lightning Dust knew full well she was endangering the other cadets and nearly killed five ponies, yet all she cared about was her cloud-clearing time. Fast forward to The Washouts, she still doesn’t acknowledge the attempted ponyslaughter, and puts a child in danger just to get back at her rival. I feel that sort of callous disregard for others makes for an irredeemable character.
Edited because: Added stoff
Yeah. Exactly. They got along and had the same goals, ergo, they are quintessential BFF material. And, I beg to differ, but this image is named “Irredeemable villains”, so I think people are saying she can’t be reformed. It’s kind of in the name.
@PurpleWonderPower
I agree. I literally screamed with delight when I found out she was returning in The Washouts, and although admittedly, it was a pretty great episode, when she didn’t reform, I just thought “Oh, COME ON!!”
If they don’t bring her back in Season 9 for a proper reformation, MLP is just dead.

I could not agree more.
This is something that has to happen.

I mean, seriously, would there ever be any doubt? Lightning Dust is awesome!

I didn´t call anyone irredeemably clueless but whatever.
