Touché, I assumed that you were stating that it had failed to reappear at all. I would agree with your observation, though, now that I understand it… although, considering that LoM brought the idea back, and that Starswirl has returned, I am quite certain that it will become relevant.

Not particularly. It’s just that something that has confused me for a while suddenly clicked.

And Lucas had no plans whatsoever beyond the first Star Wars movie about expanding the story and universe

First of all, that’s not only a spinoff comic; it’s a prequel spinoff comic, so I’m only “quite mistaken” if you’re going by publication order instead of the in-universe story.
 
And anyway, I didn’t say it was never mentioned again. This appears to be the reference you’re talking about:
 

 
We see him working on the spell, but it doesn’t factor into the story, and we learn nothing about the spell other than the fact that Starswirl considered the word “purpose” before he landed on “destiny”.

You’re quite mistaken the spell did reappear in Legends of Magic, although–sadly–I fail to recall the exact issue.

Larson had other plans for the episode, but a so many changes were made that it deviated a lot from the originak draft. And it wasn’t just the spell that were some of the more major changes.

Even if they did (which I highly doubt), by this point, they’ve clearly given it up on it.
