the reason users keep doing that is simple. they are horses.
I guess I just used your post to rant since there are users both on here and FimFiction that will claim the ponies don’t go into heat but in other posts will use “they are horses” as an excuse.
Let’s not get crazy with the over-generalizations. I’ve said since 2011 that these characters are equine-like, but not horses as we know them. I’ve only ever complained about the estrus trope when it breaks a character and turns them into a sex zombie. I’ve never tried “to have it both ways” because there’s never been another position for me to argue.
Yet a lot of people like you would also claim that the characters can’t have periods “because they are horses”. You can’t have it both ways. They are either horses or they are not.
I bring this up because the subject sometimes comes up as jokes in fan comics and fan fiction but many of the same users would also complain about the joke there too.

more importantly, some these characters are consistent hornballs. if they had a horse-like estrus cycle, female horses only get horny when they ovulate. so you get little under a week of horniness, and then you have to wait until your next ovulation, which only happen once every 21 days, about 3-4 times until your reproductive cycle shuts down with the summer solstice.
plenty of time to get pregnant, but… it doesn’t really lend well to sex as a social activity. nature’s kind of cold and unforgiving when it comes to sex with most animals. if a mare has sex in march, she gives birth in february, when the mother’s still starved from the winter and can’t produce milk. if she has sex in august, she gives birth in july… then when her foal starts eating grass 4 months later, all the grass is dying off in october. so late may, june, early july… and any other time you’re gonna end up with a dead foal.
It’s a lazy fan trope. Nothing more. Yeah, real horses go through estrus, but the characters from the show have so little in common with real horses that trying to graft such behavior onto these characters feels forced and downright cringey.

TA-DAAAAAAA~!
Dress.mov is a parody. The characters take characteristics from the show and are then turned to 11. This just feels like someone using the show characters to portray completely different personalities, and at that point I feel like why even bother calling them the same.

Soarin seemed more like overly attached but well meaning boyfriend to me, but I guess I can see it. It’s really more how the women in the series in general are presented. Twilight, Rarity, Starlight, Moondancer all are quite often shown as hyperemotional and irrational, and it all just reminds me of 80s sitcom stereotypes. Meanwhile, Spike, the rational male character, has to solve all their problems cause he’s rational. Has nothing to do with how he is in the show and takes agency away from everyone else.
Now that I think more about it the male characters are portrayed like sitcom stereotypes too… Zephyr the lecherous ass, Soarin who can’t deal with female hygene products, and the only straight man Spike.
I guess really my problem isn’t sexism but that I’m reading the equivalent of a lazy sitcom.
I wonder what happened to him? It has been a long while. Last we saw him was that scandalous evening with Moondancer I think.
You arent supposed to see them as the show equivalent. Adorkable Twilight-verse is a different world altogether.
And I would say the opposite. Besides Spike and Greg… it would seem that Soarin’, Zephyr, and other males are just as sex crazed. Zephyr is a complete creep. Soarin’ is all about touching butts and making a plot pillow! Don’t get me started on the Tax Pirate.
What about all the great female characters shown positively or learning from mistakes. You for course have Adorkable Twilight, Applejack who is strong and sure, Starlight is improving, exercising, learning to cook. Moondancer had ambitions that didn’t pan out. There is good in all of them, but there are also faults just like real life.
Believe me, both sides are being picked on and it isn’t a sexist thing. It’s just a humorous view of these Adorkable characters. In no way is this supposed to be the show.
But even with all that, there are some truly loving and heart warming stories and arcs.

Mares in heat is a real thing.
The “adorkable” characters =/= the show characters
Next are you going to call out Dress.mov for also not being accurate to Rarity in the show?
