Mary Sue ought to be utterly dropped from vocabulary because it’s such a meaningless term.

Despite how much I liked her, originally, DHX is trying very hard to make me dislike her.

Something from Sunset Shimmer? WELL, In case you haven’t noticed, the Glamorous is now a completely different character than Sunset. So why you complaining?
 
She is no longer a Sunset ripoff and nobody can srsly use that argument any longer.
 
Also on the subject of fans complaining. A lot of current fans USED to really dislike Starlight, so I’m thinking the staff is actually listening.

Because she’s so bland and most of thew few things that made her stand out early on were ripped off Sunset Shimmer, they basically threw this to make her seem all the more special, and then basically fell in love with it, despite fans complaining about this.

Starlight is a natural spellcaster genius and she has studied enough to combine different spells (TCRM, ELTSD).
 
That doesn’t mean that her magic pool is larger than Twilight or any of the princesses.

Twilight’s got a talent for copying spells, remember? She got hit by Starlight’s crystallization spell and used it against her the next time she saw her.
 
She’s really good at ripping others off.
 
In fact, she once copied a shield spell Starlight used in S5 and Starlight noted right after that it she studied it for years.

When are when ever shown or told that? In the season 5 opener, Starlight says that after years of studying and training that she couldn’t even do the shield spell that Twilight preformed. She looks in some books and than instantly casts the spells with no hesitation or effort.

But we don’t know if Twilight struggled to study those spells.
 
And I don’t Starlight studies the spells with no effort. She doesn’t probably needs to test them.

I think my problem here is that Starlight just learns the spells with no effort, while it’s shown how much Twilight studied and practiced to get where she is now. I know that Starlight needs to learn friendship lessons, but that doesn’t mean that she should just get access to an endless supply of magic that the writer’s use to let absolutely anything happen.

That’s probably because she found an book with the spell on it and she just modified it.
 
The mind control was if I’m not wrong in a book where Twi’s library was.
 
The super-speed was because Twilight teach her how to do it.
 
The laser beam looked powerful probably because of the anger and it wasn’t a harmful spell like the one that Twilight had.
 
Bottling her emotions are probably again something she learned in some of the books of Twilight.
 
And to finish this large comment, we haven’t seen or heard that Twilight knew about them. So we aren’t sure if she knows how to make them work or not.

Good point. Starlight does seem to have an affinity for mark magic.
 
But that doesn’t explain why she can alter one’s perception of reality (or whatever she did when she and Sunburst were turned back into foals), mind control the Mane 6, have super speed, and create an ultra-super-mega laser beam. Remember what it took for Twilight to make a beam that large? The power of four alicorns when she was facing Tirek.
 
Also, she can physically bottle away her emotions.

Twilight once swapped cutie marks on her friends, as I recall, and they also thought they always had them.

As an personal theory, I think that’s because Starswirl was trapped for thousands of years and meanwhile that time a lot of spells were discovered by a lot of unicorns.

And Starlight is shown to be even stronger than Twilight, so Starlight could be as powerful or more powerful than Starswirl. (More likely the latter.)

Maybe because the Want-It-Need-It spell is a weak spell in comparison with Switching CM spell that Starlight had.
 
Starlight has also probably studied more the Cutie Mark spells than Twilight and the princesses.
