You would be right. There is only TWO starlight threads that are alive atm, and one of them is a thread dedicated for fans while the other is regularly visited by haters, but both are general threads.
 
There are spefific threads dedicated to Starlight’s powers, Starlight’s character and status, and also Starlight vs Sunset but those threads are DEAD and buried.
 
So…people post here and take the thread to an adventure.

She has like almost every hobby ever. Starlight just likes kites, and magic, and that’s about it. Just giving a character tons of relatable hobbies, doesn’t make them a “better” character. In fact too many hobbies seems rather unrealistic.
 
Arguably, some could just be her trying new things, and maybe meant to encourage kids to do the same. It’s not like we all just do one thing. Still, they’re kinda going overboard with Sunset. In that way she’s just as “overpowered” as Starlight is/was, just in a different way.
 
As for Starlight, she might have the opposite problem, and perhaps isn’t really as relatable to fans, aside from her social awkwardness, regrets, and reluctance to be a leader in certain events.  
Also, sense Sunset did the whole heel-face-turn schtick before Starlight, I guess some feel she’s a “Sunset-lite” character, only they disregard she had some different directions from her.  
While Sunset’s become more of a strong leader-type, Starlight’s remained more like the awkward new girl trying to sort her life out. This might be another factor in why most prefer Sunset as “strong women” are more popular then socially awkward ones.  
Some see it as a “weakness,” but that ironically contradicts their claims that she’s “an annoying perfect & powerful Su.”
 
I hate to say it, as I don’t wanna sound biased, but when you put it that way, it does feel like Sunset is a li’l more “annoyingly perfect” then Starlight ever was. As I said, she only gets away with it, because EqG doesn’t get as many episodes, as I said, so fans only notice Starlight’s flaws, but not Sunset’s.
 
I’ve tried to point out unbiasedly that BOTH characters have good & bad things about them, but then I just get labelled a “hater,” or lynched by fanboys. (Mostly, Sunset ones, seeing as she’s more popular.) Still, I can’t deny I see more bashing of Starlight from Sunset-fans, and such, as opposed to seeing the opposite. I hardly see Sunset pics here being trolled as much.  
I think that’s also making some MLP/Starlight fans grow to hate Sunset/EqG strengthening the drama unfortunately, even I admit it’s souring me a bit on Sunset, and I don’t wanna hate her as I kinda like her too. Not that I think Starlight is perfect, nor want her to be.
 
I don’t know how it is on other “brony” sites, but the only hate I see Sunset get nowadays is from the Season 1&2 purists, and even they hardly ever bash her, but instead just bash the human EqG series as a whole instead.

Starlight is at least consistently, established very early on to be a magically-uber-talented genius idiot who abuses her magic, has issues with authority and is full of bad ideas. She is also oficially NOT “mane6” either.

Y’know, back in the Season 1 days, it was the CMC “ruining the show.” Luckily, fans quickly grew to accept the trio.
 
I even remember a few being disapointed at first that Discord wasn’t as dark a villain as they assumed, and more comical. (One early fanart piece made before he was revealed portrayed him as looking like an armored King Sombra-ish abomination.) But he quickly became popular regardless.

I kinda agree, (what, she’s suddenly a gamer?) but I think the only reason Sunset gets away with it more, is because she’s regulated to the EqG series, and that doesn’t get as many episodes. (She does get more movies & shorts then Glimmer though.) I sometimes wonder if she appeared as much as Glimmer, would she have her own hatedom too?
 
In fact, before the first EqG movie came out, fans hated on Sunset Shimmer almost as much as Glimmer. Oddly, fans seemed to like Glimmer better as a villain, which is the opposite of Sunset’s situation.
 
I find it kinda unfair fans are critical of Starlight, Twilight, ect., but if anyone says anything about Sunset, people freak. (I don’t even see attention-seeking trolls do it as much.) I even got accused of being a “Sunset-hating, Glimmerboy,” which is ironic, ‘cause I used to hate Starlight actually. (But I got over it.)  
There’s alot of hypocrisy with the “I can insult this character, but you can’t criticise my favorite at all!” mentality.
 
The “Sunset VS Starlight” B.S. reminds me of the “Amy Rose VS Sally Acorn” wars in the Sonic fanbase. They threw around the term “Mary-Su,” and such too.  
It’s so bad, I almost don’t wanna support either Sunset, or Glimmer. (But at least, it’s gone down a li’l.)

“Mary-Su” has practically lost it’s original meaning on people, and they just throw it at every character they hate…  
Some just like to tag troll too.  
In regards to that last remark, before Starlight came along, Twilight was the one they were calling a “Mary-Su,” and “ruining the show,” and such. Especially, after she got her wings. (Meanwhile, fans had no beef with Spike getting them.)  
It’s also ironic, many love Sunset for the same reasons they hate Starlight or Twilight. Heck, every character probably has some “Su-like” tendencies & moments when you think about it.

Hell, for all we know, Celestia and/or Luna tried the exact same thing back in the day, yet they found that nothing they did would work, and had to resort to petrifying him with the Elements, which also heavily restrained his magic. (I say “heavily”, because he had to have his ways of learning information.)

Even her final smash/banishment spell didn’t outwit him. Sure it was impressive, but it didn’t stop him. Discord’s definitely more powerful being the “spirit of chaos,” he’s practically a demi-god.

The main issue is that Starlight is overwhelmingly powerful. She can be stronger than Twilight, the Princesses, the rest of the Mane 6, and so on, but she’s so out-of-control that she’s nearly at Discord’s level.

I think emotions affecting magic strength in general is a good rule of thumb. After all, Big Mac hopped around towing a house while under the influence of a love potion, and Fluttershy’s strength as a flyer was affected by her confidence. And Cadance and Shining curb-stomping an army, and it being a good principle for dark magic to function on. And so on.
 
I will say I think Starlight is a better fighter than Twilight is, because she is less likely to wear the opponent down in hopes of making them give up (a Bugbear, the Rok), and will instead be more likely to try to go for the kill.
 
As for this scene, the fact that she gave Discord a warning and didn’t resort to it first shows a notable amount of character growth.
 
And it was irrelevant anyway, because it’s Discord we’re talking about. He most likely could’ve undone it instantly if he didn’t want to rub in how pointless this was.

The Cutie Re-Mark actually showed that Starlight and Twilight are about equally powerful. It’s just that Starlight is less likely to hold back than Twilight. Twilight usually avoids using her full power, while Starlight is much more impulsive, which leads to situations like here where she banishes Discord just like that.
 
Starlight’s powers also seem to be far more tied to her emotions than with Twilight. So if she’s really angry, she’s also more powerful.

That has always been one of Twilight’s talents, yes. In fact, I’m pretty sure she was able to copy Nightmare Moon’s transportation spell just like that, after seeing her perform it once.
 
The problem is that Starlight has a lot of raw power, but much less of the “focus study” that Twilight underwent at Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. So Twilight is more likely to use her huge knowledge of various spells to gain the upper hand, while Starlight often uses the brute force of her raw power.
 
However, I’m sure that Twilight’s been teaching Starlight quite a few spells since she became good, so Starlight’s power is less wild. However, as seen in All Bottled Up, it depends heavily on her emotions. So it’s not too far-fetched that a furious Starlight would be able to pull off such a huge magic blast.

Blame Hasbro for making EQG in the first place,the backlash was so hard they retconned a lot of things from this bloody bad spin off so they dont step too much on each other toes and Starlight (despite my liking of the character) was ostensibly made to be yet another foil for Twilight following Trixie and Sun Whatever
