So that’s pretty much objective evidence he was toying with her the whole time, in the “loophole abuse” sense. If you still think he flat-out couldn’t undo or block the spell if he wished, then I don’t know what to tell you.

…I LOVE Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, etc. Those series are FULL of bad writing. So yeah, I don’t mind.
Alicorns should not have as much merit to it as you all give it.
Luna, Celestia, and Cadance get outmatched almost all the time since the beginning of this show.
And guess who was the most powerful wizard before that? Oh that’s right, a unicorn! Starswirl!
Don’t give us that “average unicorn” can’t match an alicorn bull. Twilight has slowed down her magic studying due to all of her new responsibilities while Starlight continued to practice. And it was apparent she was a prodigy since her debut. It just means she has the talent for magic as well as Twilight, she just happened to not be the “chosen one” of the Elements. The ability to tamper with cutie marks was something Starswirl, Celestia, or Twilight can barely do (if not at all). And lastly there should be nothing wrong with an upcoming new unicorn being a prodigy in this new age.

“Good”, really? Its good that an average unicorn is matched with an ALICORN who is also the element of magic herself? Do you have any idea how meaningless that makes being any of those? Starlight hasnt done anything, she waz just born OP. If you actually think thats good youre just proving you like bad writing
An observation I made is that Twilight seemed to favor blocking over dodging, and Starlight favored dodging. And in her debut episode, when Twilight wasn’t making a telegraphed attack that Starlight could shut down by simply striking first, she blocked her attack and Starlight retreated afterwards.
Not to mention how Twilight made that wasteful loop and spammed a lot of lasers that missed, at one point.

Starlight couldn’t match Twilight in a fair fight. Starlight had to plan an ambush for months and keep being one step ahead of Twilight just to match her.
Starlight KNEW she was outclassed. That’s why she had to resort to tricks.

I’m not saying Starlight is NOT powerful, I’m saying she was not as powerful as you make her out to be.
Although I agree that she currently IS super strong. She and Twilight probably are evenly matched right now. Good.
Did you forget that at her first appearance, Starlight could match said Alicorn? Claiming that she got strong because of Twilight mentoring her is insane.
At her introduction, a normal unicorn could match and even overpower the personification of magic.

Sunset’s FAR more popular than Twilight but reformed Sunset is only introduced around Season4.
Some Sunset fans prefer Sunset over Mane6. Big deal. That’s neither an argument for nor against a character nor her fans.
Starlight “fans” in a nutshell. Despite the mane 6 being around way longer but worship her just for the sake of it.
You just made your own list that it is still a possibility that Discord can be overcome.
With enough power accumulated, he can be overpowered.
With a random artifact (whatever that throne was), he can be nullified.
Even Celestia casted some anti-chaos-whatever magic to the elements so he cannot affect the back in season 3.
With the right preparations, Discord can be dealt with.
And you keep bringing up “fight” even after we all keep saying how it wasn’t a fight.
If you don’t want poor writing, then you should be complaining about the elements of harmony itself. Whenever the good guys get overpowered… BAM! friendship and elements of harmony within us wins the fight!
But if you wanna compare scripts and saying a prodigy unicorn training under an Alicorn, whose literal talent is magic, for years can improve oneself to match a powerful Spirit is considered bad writing, but dues ex Elements of Harmony rainbow blast plot pulls to defeat the “God of Chaos” is fine… then I don’t know what to tell you. You have great taste!
I personally don’t mind the cheesiness; it has it’s own charm to it.

Yes. She killed Discord. But considering he just let her kill him, that doesn’t prove Starlight to be stronger. Discord’s practically unfazed by death apparently, so all that effort to vaporize him was for nothing anyway.

She has OP magic AND she’s DHX’s golden girl. BUT, correlation doesn’t make causation. If her OP magic is a result of her being a “creator’s pet” then she’d successfully solved every single problem in with her magic and everybody would be like “Wow Glimmer you’re so magical! Can you cure my cancer–Oh my god I’m cured! Thank you Oh Glamorous One!” Heh. She can’t even cure baldness. Starlight’s OP magic almost always make things worse for her; Starlight solves her problems without magic and that’s kind of the point to her character development.
Starlight has amazing powers–but they’re useless. Starlight can’t empathize by simply mind-reading ppl, Starlight can’t use friendship magic to magically wipe away corruption from ppl’s hearts, Starlight can’t transform apparently, She’s not even an Element AND she’s full of bad ideas–even her good ideas are bad ideas.
Look at ALL the major fights in FiM and EqG and count how many of them are won by blasting ppl in the face with ridiculously flashy magic. Almost ALL of them. Yet Starlight NEVER WON a single battle with her magic; she won them with SPEECH CHECK. WoW! The single most magically OP character, never got a chance to win a fight with her OP magic–even when everybody else does it.
If you don’t like a character that’s fine, but don’t make up stuff or overreact and making wild conclusions to justify why you don’t like said character.
