The darker stuff isn’t a secret. We saw it at the beginning and end of season 5 and she’s brought it up a lot.

Glad to see Starlight didn’t spill her dark secret.

After binge-watching Star vs the Forces of Evil, I can’t help imagining comparing Sparity to Jarco.  
Maybe if they worked at the love triangle like that, I’d accept AppleSpike.  
At any rate, if you wanted to sink Sparity, him forming a new special and mutual bond he cherishes as much, then eventually more than his crush is the key.  
Sparity sailing before sinking is just optional; they don’t have to follow Jarco to a tee.
 
That aside, how amusing would it be if some filly got a precocious crush on him and he either had a moment Like Dipper Pines with past-Wendy or there was a role reversal of his scene with Rarity at the Trenderhoof shrine?
