Don’t caaaaare.
The thing is not if EG is canon or not, but do you even care?
That’s it exactly, and it would be nice if more people realized it. DHX has gone through a lot of effort to keep the two universes separate enough that one isn’t necessary to understand the other beyond the first EqG movie.
I wish they’d go ahead and take that one step further and make an EqG expressly aimed at an actual high school audience so we could see hugs like this onscreen, but unfortunately…
We have 2 different world, unaffected by one another, with zero plot connection. If you don’t watch EG nothing of story value will be lost for you, and it’s not like main show acknowledges any connection to EG.
The thing is not if EG is canon or not, but do you even care?
Because that’s what the word means. For a single author, canon is everything they wrote; for a franchise with multiple, canon is everything that is officially released as part of that franchise. Again, this is not a difficult concept.
Your attempt at sealioning has become tedious, take it somewhere else unless you have something to say about the image.

I insist that I am not asking this question because I don’t like the result. I’m not sure why everyone has to attack this straw man. I liked Twilight becoming an alicorn; I could write a thesis about how important that was. I thought EqG 1 was pretty good and Rainbow Rocks was the best thing to happen to the whole series! Rarijack is my second-favorite ship. With those things aside, I’d like to know why you think “because the American government said so” is a good grounds for canon.

LPS isn’t released under the MLP imprint, so no.
None of this is difficult, the only reason anyone starts screaming about it is because something happened in an episode or an issue that they didn’t like, so they try to insist that it doesn’t really count.
I actually really do like most of what Hasbro approves. So I have no bone to pick with them, but I don’t see how conventional legal protections over trademarks should have anything to do with what should be treated as part of a whole idea. This idea confuses me. To use legal convention, which is only supported by executive power, as a grounds for explanation is tantamount to saying “because I said so.” If you want a grounding of the authority of Hasbro, you’re going to need to show how they have a better grasp of the whole idea. But without this comment getting too lengthy this raises issues: Habsro itself doesn’t even write or design the series; it just acts as an approver of what is released to the public. Furthermore, what’s all this about adding in the comics? That seems odd to me. What’s the basis for that? Are you going to throw in the Littlest Pet Shop episodes too as canon because that trademark is also owned by Hasbro?

Does it have Hasbro trademarks and MLP trade dress on it? Then it’s canon, full stop. Everything that happens onscreen in FIM and EqG, and everything that happens on the page in the IDW comics, is MLP canon.
Even if you really really really don’t like it.
Canon
ˈkanən
noun
Rules need to be laid down by an authority. If you know what canon means, please state that authority and the non-vicious grounds on which that authority has its power.
you count EQG as canon
@ponysopher
if you believe the writers are authoritative on canonicity
Couldn’t agree more
I never suggested that I or the fandom owned anything. But what does ownership have to do with anything? What does it even mean to own an idea? I did suggest that it is ungrounded to say that writers are the sole authority when they are in effect discovering an idea that they are relating in words. You are right; cannon has nothing to do with whether people like it, but I don’t see its relation to “ownership” either, whatever that means.
*Edited “whether people write it” to “whether people like it”

Fanbases are denser then lead. Good grief. If its made by them. If it’s an official product its canon. Good lord how hard is that for people to comprehend!?
Fanbases think they get to curate what is and isn’t canon and which creators input does and doesn’t matter.
You don’t own the things you like. Unless you work on the MLP or EQG staff you don’t get to decide anything about canonicity.
They made it. Its canon. It counts whether people like it or not.
The Star Wars prequels exist people don’t like em but they exist and they count.
The first star trek movie exists it’s not great but it counts.
Etc etc & so on
This is only true if you believe the writers are authoritative on canonicity. Not so sure about that myself.
It can be canon to its world.
And yes the writers have stated EG is canon. It’s a dumb debate in the first place. That’s like saying the new Star Wars movies aren’t canon just because you don’t like em. The only interpretation is some fans are more ridiculously anal about things then others.
Hope this artist does more with this episode. Being a big Rarijack artist after all. So much material.
That was confirmed a long time ago.
Right-O. Also, hi Raritybro! I take it you liked the special?

McCarthy has said it’s canon, but they don’t plan to ever reference it in FIM (except for the sirens I guess, like you said).
The way I see it, is it’s canon if
Because this episode had Rarijack more romancey than Slice of Life had LyraBon, so it’d be kinda hypocritical to think the other way. And no one’s really sure if EQG is canon, anyway. The writer say it is, but it’s never been referenced in FiM (aside from the Siren stuff from season 7, but that doesn’t really count.)
So I think it’s up to personal interpretation
And to be honest, I don’t care if people want to ship them. More power to you if the show gives you something to work with in that area. But there’s an equal number of people out there who look at this and don’t see anything substantially different from any of the other times any of the characters have been affectionate on the show, and it gets annoying to be insulted for thinking that.
It’s still nice artwork though.
