“You’re not mommy…”
-Spike, Winter Wrap Up
Pretty sure I’ve said this before, but…
How in the world is her being a mother to him realistic? She was a literal child when he hatched, not even in her teens at that point. Having her take care of a child on top of being a dedicated student at Princess Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns, when she has two loving parents, how is it supposed to be fair to place all that responsibility on her shoulders?
There isn’t any denying that they truly are family, but still.
Now, granted, this image could be technically true, if the word “Velvet” followed “Twilight.”

Twilight is more like Spike’s older sister than his mom.

Celestia may not know much about dragons but she knew they had a civilization complete with a ruler and kingdom. She would have been more than well aware Spike was capable of rational thought, sentience and even speech. Even if Twilight and family were not initially aware, I doubt Celestia would just not tell them Spike was not a mere pet.

You’re assuming Spike was being raised like a baby and not like a pet.
Filly Twilight raising a foal would be ridiculous.
Filly Twilight being given an pet to take care of (and teach her empathy in the process) would make perfect sense.

Granted, that doesn’t speak well for how Celestia and the other ponies viewed Spike, but remember, at the time ponies knew next to nothing about dragons. For all they knew, Spike would be nothing more than an animal. That he learned to talk and proved to be as smart as any pony may have come as a complete surprise to them all.

I like this concept. It’s not the most realistic one, but I enjoy it anyway. It’s cute, it could be used for a good story, it gives more depth to the characters.

Hope Spike would be Twi’s adopted son in G5.
SorryNeverSorry

Offensive. Please ban.
I always assumed that, if anyone adopted Spike, it would have been Twilight’s parents. Twilight would have been too young at the time.
NowhereSH

Nope. I mean, we are talking about Twilight, the bookworm whose worst nightmare is fail a test. And that was in season 3, when she was already an adult

Twilight being Spike’s mother is one of the most out there headcanons in the fandom to me, particularly as it seems to be gaining traction around here. It just doesn’t seem bealthy to me to let an anti social kid like Twilight was when she hatched Spike to raise a baby dragon. I have no doubt that Celestia and Twi’s parents, while encouraging Twilight to be more open to friendship and social interaction, would also be extremely aware of the fact that such an enviroment would not be a healthy one to bring up Spike in if he was to grow into a socially well adjusted dragon. Plus, babies raising babies. Twilight, while a very smart kid, was still a kid when Spke hatched. She wouldn’t be able to provide a stable childhood to Spike on top of her responsibilities in school and as Celestia’s personal student. I also think Twi’s parents and Celestia would realize all of this wouldn’t be healthy for Twilight as well. Don’t get me wrong, I think they would try to encourage the two to interact in order to help both develop socially (with twilight obviously falling behind) but I doubt they’d push raising a kid on her, especially a species that ponies have little interaction with. I like to see then as siblings. Best friends still seems reasonable. But mother and son just doesn’t seem that probable. If anything, I’d say twilight’s parents did most of the actual parenting. Either that or Celestia and her castle staff raised him and allowed him to move with Twilight when she moved out of her parent’s house.

Yo agradezco al eterno padre
No porque las hizo bellas
Sino porque a todas ellas
Les dio corazón de madre.

In every woman’s heart lies the secret desire of being a mother.

Didn’t Faust or someone who currently works on the show state it was Celestia who raised Spike? Either way I see Twilight and Spike as having more of a sibling type relationship than a mother and child type one.
