CONTROVERSIAL OPINION TIME:  
I think Dave Polsky is a great writer (for slice-of-life episodes). Really, I like every one of the three episodes he’s written so far.  
…  
I still kind of don’t like MW, but I don’t think the episodes are all that bad. I mean, I found Magic Dual to be an awful episode. Every single plot element rubbed me the wrong way.
 
But there I go, talking shit about the writers. Someone shoot me.

Why do people keep suspecting this is by the same writer as “Dragon Quest”? This suggests a radically different interpretation of dragons (and Spike’s knowledge of said dragons).

From the dragons we have seen, nothing suggests a noble code. More like survival of the fittest and crush anything smaller than you. Also Twilight indicated they know almost nothing about dragons. Plus the plot idea is an old one. I’m not saying they can’t pull it off and make a fun episode. And yeah, it does sound like Merriweather.

This episode will be awesome. I have faith that studio b will take this old tired idea, and do something new with it, that makes it witty and enjoyable. And I’m sure that they’ll handle both spike and applejack’s characters carefully, so no one comes off as annoying or unlikable.
 
OVerall: I predict that this episode will be a good one.

THANK GOD, the interaction between these two is almost nonexistent compared to his relationships with the other 5. Can’t wait.
 
Although the code thing sounds like they pulled it out of their ass. They better do a good job explaining it. It seems to contrast how dragons as a whole seem anything but honorable.

On the other, the gang at Studio B has made cliched-sounding plots work before.

I expected this to be the “never take your friends granted” episode. But it looks like Spike will be annoying as fuck and Applejack will try to get rid of him because he will end up so annoying.

So wait, why didn’t he swear to serve Shining Armor after he saved him from Sombra in the tundra? And why not Cadance when she caught him as he was falling with the crystal heart? :/
