That too. That’s one of the biggest reasons why I love this new throne room. It respects both sisters and it’s a great visual sign how far the two of them have come over the course of the series.
 
Plus it just makes sense. For example, my family’s kitchen table has a spare chair for guests but we don’t have guests often so it’s mostly empty. But if and when we do have a guest over, they can still have a seat and eat in the kitchen with us. Same applies here. Celestia and Luna may not be there in the throne room at the same time all the time but there will be times where it might be needed for the both of them to sit there.

There’s moments where the both of them are awake (like this screencap right here) so having two thrones makes plenty of sense.

I wonder about the two thrones anyway… I mean how often are both royal sisters are awake at the same time? There should be just one throne with the Equestria flag. That would make more sense. Oh, wait… Friendship is money. More difference more toys… I forget.

Princess Luna : Sister, why does my throne look smaller then yours?  
Princess Celestia : Be thankful sister, look at Princess Twilight she doesn’t complain that she do not have a throne.  
Princess Luna : Because she has her own throne in Ponyville even her friends have one and her own Castle.A CASTLE sister!

You’re forgetting that the damage was all undone when the princesses got their magic restored. So it seems they renovated the throne room at some point between the end of season 7 and the start of the movie.

Guess the throne room had to be renovated ever since the Storm King invasion took out half of the castle roof windows and ceiling paintings

Being the big sister has its advantages.

I think it’s funny that throughout the whole two episodes, even when she’s terribly angry at him, Ember is seen next to Thorax. It’s like even though she’s angry, she still subconsciously thinks of him as a friend. :3

Guessing from the angle I really don’t think that her throne is smaller but stands more near to the wall behind.
 
As I seen the room the first time, my toughts were: “Ah… Waterfalls! That’s this season new visual design, right, dhx?”

I think it’s hilarious that in the movie their thrones were equally sized and spaced. In the show Luna’s is smaller and Celestia’s is in the middle.

I do love that they changed to the movie’s version of the throne room. Its so beautiful and the symbolism shows everything Luna and Celestia were supposed to be from the start.
