That’s exactly what it is.
Could be; you may be right, I wasn’t sure. :)
I don’t think that’s a Postiche. I think it’s the other lappet (decorative flap) of the Sphinx’s nemes (headdress).

Every artist has their own interpretation of things.
You can see the Sphinx here has a beard. (Well technically a false beard called a Postiche, apparently, but it does give a much greater impression of male facial features)
Not to mention functional - their signature eye makeup was all about keeping sunlight from reflecting off one’s face and into one’s eyes.
