In fairness, alot of ponies of those species aren’t shown only doing those things, or only doing those certain occupations.
Being a pegasi has helped her take care of animals actually, as her fight helps her cover more ground easily.
Faust wanted to use the G1 names and designs (Rainbow Dash would have been Firefly if she got things her way) but Hasbro insisted on G3.
actually what I was looking at some concept art just to see how drastically they can change I found some a lot of faust’s concept art that showed fluttershy as an earth pony and pinkie as a pegasus although it could have been an surprise (g1 pinkie) but it was Pinkie’s mare
I’m aware of that, but some of the rebooted G3 characters were changed to supporting/bit characters. Like Cheerilee was a main G3 character, but becomes an ancillary character in the current show.
Makes me curious how many characters will return, or be redesigned next gen’.

Also, G3 Dashie had a personality more like current Rarity.
“Rainbow Dash always dresses in style!”
“Rainbow Dash”, “Scootaloo, “Pinkie Pie”, “Fluttershy”, “Rarity”, “Sweetie Belle”, and “Cheerilee” were all names from G3 (well Fluttershy was more from the toys but yeah).
And the reason it didn’t happen before was because they lost the trademarks to most of the G1/G2 names. It’s the same reason why they are now determined to keep using the names.
Interesting enough rainbow dash’s G3 counterpart was an earth pony as well as fluttershy’s G1 counterpart(posey) so it’s not like this is the first generation to make drastic changes assuming this is what we actually get so far nothing about G5 has actually been confirmed all we have is concept art
Yeah, as I said before, can’t please everyone no matter what they chose to do. I don’t mind either way, but it just feels odd seeing Twilight as an earth pony, and such.

I do find it a little ironic seeing people complain (just a little) that the new show is going to have the same main 6 after years of seen people complain about how other characters is going to be the new main six

Actually, I kinda agree. Seeing as whenever the MLP franchise is “rebooted” for a new decade, they often almost always have a new line of main characters, with some returning ones. I wouldn’t of minded seeing a “New Mane 6” frankly, rather then just reuse the same 6.
Hasbro needs to keep using the names to maintain the trademarks. It’s the same reason why they always reuse the Transformers names.
Honestly, I think I’m in the pessimistic minority, so I’m going to have to go on the side of, if they’re going to go with a whole new continuity, might as well just go all in and come up with new everything, characters included. “All or nothing” if you will. :/

I hope So. It won’t do to have these characters basically parade around, wearing the Faces of the previous Mane Six.
I personally won’t mind A Dragon or Sentient Canid appearing as someone’s companion. I mean, the MLP 2017 Movie Fucked up One thing…
They ignored the Existence of Diamond Dogs to shove in This new Cat Boi, Kappa.
The manestyles are going to change, the drawing style isn’t even known yet (although I do have an opinion on the most appropriate design for what they want). Meghan and the production staff really want to play with manestyles and body shapes.
With her Colours fitting that of a previous Mage Character? And the Form and Hair style too?
Maybe Gen 5 Twilight is gonna be an Earth Pony who likes astronomy? Or maybe an extremely overarchieving actress/singer who doesn’t accept less than perfection? Stars don’t have to be related to magic, you know.
The problem Lies in Twilight’s mark. It’s a clear Magical mark, but she’s not a Unicorn anymore.
Unless they would plan on Earth Ponies having Magic Powers as well, that isn’t going to Work for Twilight as a Whole.
It actually fits better, because “Rainbow Dash” sounds more like a tomboy pony who likes going fast, rather then her G3 girly Rarity-like counterpart. Plus, we got Sonic Rainbooms out of it.
Meanwhile, the other characters are kinda expies of other G1 characters. Pinkie was gping to be Surprise originally, Twilight Sparkle was going to be Twilight Twinkle originally, Fluttershy was going to be Posey.
I do know we were supposed to have firefly instead of Rainbow Dash.
But they couldn’t use her they pretty much put firefly’s personality in Rainbow Dash
I hear Applejack was the only G1 name/character they could legally use. Though, some villains like Tirek still seem to be free for them to use, or reboot. I’d like to see more recurring, and one-shot villains in the next series.
