It's still somewhat popular. I don't get the hate either, especially when some claim it's too vulgar/violent. Compared to_*some fanworks_* and some animated sitcoms, (if you like "Rick & Morty," it's not a big deal) it wasn't that bad.
It has a very dark sense of humor, and some cringey moments true, but regardless it had a fun silly playfulness about it, and you can tell Max made the Pony.MOV parody series out of love for the series. I also enjoy the bizarre animation & art style reminiscent of "Ren & Stimpy," and some other crazy cartoon shows mixed in.
Max is actually quite talented.
One of my favorite moments was Spike berating Twilight for using the term "everypony."
