Twilight’s probably trying to make Spike as big and powerful as possible so she can conquer the world. I’m guessing that why she had Dinky destroy the Crystal Empire: She wanted the crystal heart to feed to Spike to make him stronger.

Full-on Grimdark tag doesn’t really apply for this, I think. While she’s “evil”, she’s not doing anything evil, having an extreme mental breakdown or that sort of stuff.
 
We usually reserve the Grimdark tag for stuff that’s pretty dark or disturbing.
