so she got a brain injury that let her resist the mind control, but unable to survive as just a lone changeling, turned into a pony who’s… not an imitation of somepony, I guess. maybe “turn into a pony” was all she was taught in terms of survival?
 
she only became a pony out of necessity, not because she wanted to. then she was stuck as the one pony though, because she started making friends, and adopting dinky and stuff. and… I guess she can do changeling stuff besides replace other ponies, so that’s what she’s talking about. maybe mimic other ponies to spread false information to chrysalis, gambling on those ponies not showing up at the wrong time.
 
yeah, that makes sense.
 
actually derpy’s in a really good position to do that… since unlike all the other changelings, she has friends, and her friends’ll let her track their movements without suspicion, so she’ll know when and where to mimic them, without having to cocoon them.
 
I can see that failing rather spectacularly… but even if it does, oh no it was some random changeling mimicking my friend! that’d be a red flag to chrysalis though…

I think it’s less being upset with what she is, and more how Queen Chrysalis in this universe has the entire changeling race under constant mind-control.
 
My understanding of it, at least.

She became a pony to survive, but now that she’d gained changeling attention she has to go back to what she knows. All she really wants is to live, and for Dinky to live.

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this. she doesn’t want to be a pony? then why doesn’t she go back to the hive? why’d she… uh… adopt? she had to have adopted, right? unless she stole dinky from an egg clutch, or… something? then there wouldn’t be any secrets to keep from dinky though.
 
or… she warmed up to being the pony, after carrying out her orders like she’s describing? if she never asked for it, someone’d have to order her to do it, right? does that mean she did replace derpy? how long ago? she acts like it’s been years. there’s a derpy who’s been in a cocoon for… years? so… doesn’t that make it a good thing if chrysalis kicks the fake derpy’s ass? because the queen didn’t authorize her to impersonate somepony for this long, so… the real derpy’d have been free by now, if not for the fake one?
 
and… breaking her disguise is going to make ponies notice that derpy’s been replaced. how’s that a good idea? is she going to start cocooning other ponies, to replace them?
