speculation
I should know better than trying to talk to people so invested in their headfanons. >->
I just thought as a mod you would be, yknow. Wiser.
When has the fandom really considered Trixie a despicable character? Redeeming the cute mares is where it’s always at.
But feel free to get emotionally invested >->
Neither is particularly pretty.
Omnicide was kind of implied in the show, not just from deducing what lack of sunlight actually means, but because of how strongly Celestia reacted against it. If it’d just mean stuff was darker, Celestia would’ve just allowed it for a few years to let Luna blow off steam, rather than go full combat mode.
Regardless, though, Luna actively tried to kill the main 6 in the premier. Pretty sure Trixie will only go as far as annoying “pranks”. She’ll still not be redeemed and the fandom will consider her an even more despicable character.
“tried to annihilate all life on the planet”
I’m sure that detail was never on the show…(Maybe the writers just missed it?)
They also apologised, and cleaned up the wreckage. They faced their punishment. They would’ve faced it regardless of what is was.
They are better people. Sucks for Trixie fans, but them’s the breaks.
Not a thing…
Think about the whole concept of “power corrupts” though. Without really stating it, it assumes that power is evil: after all, were power good, or even neutral, it wouldn’t “corrupt.” Rather, it would simply exaggerate existing traits: those with power who were good would act better, those who were bad would act worse. But if you believe power corrupts, what that really implies is that people shouldn’t have power: that it is necessarily wrong to have power: power essentially becomes an artifact of doom.
Basically, the only difference between a jerk and a villain is that a villain has the strength and will and intelligence to do what the jerk wishes he could.
“I thought site admins aren’t supposed to take sides in fandom debates >>”
We don’t make _final calls on stuff like fandom names or the like. I’ll bitch and moan publicly all I want, but that’s me and not “The Management”.
And re: Power not being a corrupting factor, I would like to remind you of a little pony called Luna, who twice tried to annihilate all life on the planet. Of course, she gets a free pass, being related to Celestia and all she gets to enjoy being magically redeemed and becoming the fandom’s sweetheart.
>Power does not corrupt
If we were to use real world analysis of Equestria, then yes, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It’s the basis for the argument for checks, balances, and maybe even bureaucracy.
“Good” and “evil” are uselessly subjective labels.
She was a liar, that much can be objectively said about her. She made claims she couldn’t back up.
Feel free to apologize for RD, AJ, Spike and Rarity heckling her magic show.
They didn’t quite heckle, as far as I can tell – at worst, maybe unduely skeptical (as you say, she’s an actor, after all). Trixie was far more antagonistic, literally egging folks on. (“Little hayseed?” and calling Rarity’s mane a rat’s nest.) And of course, they stepped up the challenge, but Trixie answered in kind by humiliating the ponies in question, not actually performing said tricks better. Kinda like answering a well-reasoned rebuttal with “You’re dumb”.
Now, like I said before, I can’t say what constitutes “good” or “bad” anymore than the next poster, but I don’t think Trixie is as innocent as most folks make her out to be.
Still, she was undeveloped at the time, and if the new episode makes her a villain, that’s not the writers “making a bad decision,” or “wasting a good character.” That’s simply them saying “no, Trixie was rotten to the core to begin with.” Power does not corrupt, my friend. That would imply that power is necessarily bad. Rather, it merely shows the true nature of the person wielding it. If Trixie gets power, and uses it for assholishness, that’s good enough evidence for me that she’s assholish.
Though, again, I’d like to point out Clayface.
Apologist?
Apparently you are under the impression that in Boast Busters Trixie was evil or some such.
But then you did say this.
“It’s been about the fact that, without qualification, she’s a self-worshipping asshole, who appears to enjoy other people’s pain, and won’t admit when she’s wrong.”
I can name a ton of people like that. Doesn’t make them villains, she has a bad attitude to be sure but that doesn’t make her evil.
Just stuck up.
Feel free to apologize for RD, AJ, Spike and Rarity heckling her magic show.
