Man, I know this comment is a year old, but for some bizarre reason I only just got it.
But yeah, dude? I was taking the piss. Mania is definitely better than CD, but not by THAT ridiculous a degree.
I admit CD’s levels are unorthodox, but that’s why I kinda like them, they kinda bring a different style to the series.
I will admit, I felt Metal Sonic’s boss battle, (well “boss race” actually) stage was admittedly rather bad designed, and didn’t let you take advantage of Sonic’s speed much, and you pretty much had to memorize where the shortcut platforms were, and such.
It’s funny the ending anime cinematic actually shows a better version of that stage.
I was saying CD had bad levels.
But I got Mania when it became Plus and allowed the use of the Figure 8 dash in save files.
Kinda odd to refuse to play it just for that. That’s like saying you refuse to play “Super Mario Odyssey,” because there’s no fire flowers.
Actually, there is a normal way to unlock it without the cheat, and you get to use it in the save files, no problem. (Without disabling save.) You just have to beat some Blue Sphere stages, and get enough medals to unlock it. You can also unlock other cool things like “Sonic3&K”’s “Insta sheild move.
Are you saying Mania or CD had “horrible” levels?
I personally refused to even play it because all I wanted was the Figure 8 Dash in a game that didn’t have horrible levels. I learned Mania let you unlock the figure 8 dash BUT only if you activated a code, which then disabled the save function, meaning you had to put in more codes in order to choose a stage. So I refused to touch it since using the Figure 8 Dash was treated as a game breaking ability.
I didn’t touch it until it became Mania Plus and they no longer locked the figure 8 into a no-save file.
Not to mention the massive amount of mods that actually extend beyond minor gameplay tweaks and reskins.

I think Sonic Mania probably plays better then CD. I don’t get why some in this thread are hating on “Mania,” probably the highest rated Sonic game in years. I even kinda like the new “drop-dash move,” and unlockables.
Sigh, a neoclassicist. (neoclassicist: a “Sonic fan” who can’t deal with any game past the Dreamcast era, compare to classicist: a “Sonic fan” who can’t deal with any game past the Genesis era)
Grow up, the Sonic series is not dead just because you can’t enjoy the games as of late.
You know, spamming “>” just makes you come across as immature and juvenile.
As much as I love Sonic CD, looking back it had some flaws about it too.
In fact, after playing the GameCube/PC version after playing the Mobile Christian Whitehead official remake, the spindash isn’t as responsive as the much better remake, or even as Sonic 2/3 was. Also, the bonus stages are very hard afer you’re used to the remake’s improved frame-rate, and higher resolution for the Mode-7 effects. They’re very choppy in the original.
The game also has an overabundance of annoying backwards springs, (or similar cheap traps) and looking back the Metal Sonic boss race stage isn’t very well designed to take advantage of Sonic’s speed.
I love the game, don’t get me wrong.
Shadow>>>>>>>Boom.
I’m surrounded by Philistines!
Mania>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sonic CD.
I remember Espio, the GUN Commander, and another character cussing in it. Which is partly why the game is considered kinda narmy. Especially, how overused the word “damn” is.
Funny thing is in “Sonic Heroes” Amy Rose says “Oh my God!” at some point/s. Which is oddly considered swearing too. (Nintendo even censored Luigi & Wario saying it in “Mario Party.”)
Yeah. There are some blatant moments where the first grade censoring was in it (such as Shadow saying “What was that all about?” but his mouth says “What the hell was that all about?”), but there is a clear scene of Maria pushing Shadow, a GUN soldier drawing his handgun and shooting Maria rather blatantly, some red and purple blood in certain scenes, Sonic swearing if you abandon a Good Side mission in favor of another, and a few others.
Well, to be fair, they brought back the original themesong in “Sonic Generations.” Though, yeah, it’s a shame they can’t use it much due to legal issues.

I still feel sad Dreams Come True claimed copyright on the Sonic Theme and it has’t been used since Spinball :/
Edited
Kinda like how early versions of “Sonic Spinball” used the original Masato Nakamura title theme from Sonic 1 & 2?
Edited
Really?
Odd. The first run on ps2 lacked the censoring that subsequent versions had, and while it was still E10, it was re-ruled as needing to have been Teen, thus censored.
I have a version that includes several scenes that aren’t in the reprint, such as Maria being shot.
I rather play 2006 than Shadow to be honest. I can at least get a Sonic-like feel from 2006. I can’t be bothered to get all those 10 endings in Shadow.
Now I know that’s bullshit, since there’s no un-edited versions of the game available.
I actually own an original T rated version with all the cut content in it. It makes the game fit better with more blatantly showing the events of SA2 and why shadow is so hellbent on fixing his memories.
Well, they may not be “Sonic games,” but they’re still part of the Sonic series/franchise regardless. Sega even still lists them in official Sonic game lists.
It’s kinda ironic fans got so angry over Shadow using guns. According to some sources, they included them, because some young fans wanted Sonic to use weapons, but they felt they suited Shadow better.
People also mock the game’s “edge,” but originally it was going to have T-rating levels of red blood, and cussing in it. (But then they decided to tone it down to take advantage of the ESRB’s new “E-10” rating to reach a wider audience.) It’s really not as “try-hard edge,” like most gritty modern violent games, and such, In fact, the game has a bit of campyness & humor to it. Whch works considering you’re still playing as a hedgehog.

They are both Sonic games, and, in my opinion, both good ones.
Knuckles Chaotics isn’t a sonic game, though it shares similar themes in gameplay. Shadow fits into the category, but it isn’t a Sonic game, and that’s something no one understands and goes ‘it’s a bad sonic game”.
Well yeah, it’s not a sonic game, and as long as you call it a a sonic game and make reference to it as a sonic game, it’s gonna fail at every turn to be a sonic game.
