Well, they may not be "Sonic games," but they're still part of the Sonic series/franchise regardless. Sega even still lists them in official Sonic game lists.
It's kinda ironic fans got so angry over Shadow using guns,. but aAccording to some sources, they included them, because some young fans wanted Sonic to use weapons, but they felt they suited Shadow better.
People also mock the game's "edge," but originally it was going to have T-rating levels of red blood, and cussing in it. (But then they decided to tone it down to take advantage of the ESRB's new "E-10" rating to reach a wider audience.) It's really not as "try-hard edge," like most gritty modern violent games, and such, In fact, the game has a bit of campyness & humor to it. Whch works considering you're still playing as a hedgehog.
