Cut to 2018, and FA has added “brony” to its… tagline? (At least I think it’s a tagline.) It’s all good now :) Also, getting this image here was a pain; I had to go to Tumblr, take a screenshot with Dropbox, crop it, upload it to my Deviantart Sta.sh, click “download,” open the image in a popup window, and copy-past the link from there.
Still, those were some dark times. As someone who is a furry and a brony, I can safely say both sides were acting dumb; seeing the two most welcoming and accepting (at least, in theory) fandoms on the internet get so irrationally angry with each other was tiresome to say the least. And while there’s far less animosity between these two fandoms now, the furry fandom seems to be tearing itself apart. And since the these two fandoms now have a fairly decent overlap, I can’t help but worry that the brony fandom might not be far behind. But these are both fandoms that I hold dear in my heart, and, no matter what happens, I’ll always have hope!
Neither side “started anything,” and it doesn’t justify bronies to act out, cyberbully other fandoms, and such…
(Sigh) I think I’m going to drop the whole debate, as you’ll never understand, because “those evil furries started it, and deserve ire, while it’s ok for bronies to hate, and cyberbully others, because they’re the only ones being misunderstood, and attacked.”
Gatta say, I disagree. If anyone of either fanbase, acts like an A-hole for whatever reason, or regardless of whether they feel justified, because a furry/brony was mean to them, that doesn’t change the fact they’re still being an A-hole too.
Try to attach that logic based on not just somebody’s fandom, but the way they look, what faith they believe in, what their hair color is, ect. and hopefully you’ll understand that just ‘cause somebody has a bad experience with several people of a certain group, that doesn’t give them a right to lash out at others just out of bad experiences…
“OMG a few green eyed people were mean to me! I hate all green eyed people now! I have a right to be mean back to them, because they started it!”
Doesn’t that sound silly at all to you?
Edited
It was definitely more than just “a few bad eggs”.
Not these days, sure. It’s died down a lot in recent years. But those initial furry attitudes on the brony fandom generated hasn’t been forgotten by people from the old crowd, and the sentiment is still there.
Except I’ve already explained numerous times why bronies act like that to furries? As schoolyard and childish as it sounds, “Furries started it”.
Still, I disagree the entire furry fandom is to blame, or all against bronies as you claim. As I said, there’s lots of brony furries on FA, and such out there, and actually lots of pony fanart on FA, and such done by furries, whom don’t get attacked for it.
You seem to quick to judge an entire fanbase on a few bad eggs, as a outspoken mean minority is oftentimes louder, and more noticeable then the quieter nicer majority. (Not saying furries are perfect, mind you.)
There is no huge brony/furry war going on as far as I can tell. It’s just a few bad eggs in both fandoms slap-fighting over which is more “cringe.”
Which is actually ironic, as I see many people (not just furries mind you) who think bronies are against them if they have so much as a few bad experience with a few bronies. By your logic, they have a right to hate all us bronies.
It just doesn’t seem to make sense, or seem justifiable for either side to me.
You’re kinda exaggerating, especially ‘cause as I tried to point out, there are many bronies on FA, and such, and many anthro’ fans in the brony fanbase too whom have no problem with each other. You’re just letting a few small incidents taint your view.
Edited
Oh, most definitely - there would have bronies that went into the brony fandom with anti-furry sentiment. But compared with the how the furry fandom collectively turned on the brony fandom without provocation? Kinda pales in comparison.
And yeah, there’s inter-fandom drama, people will always disagree on the direction their preferred show/series/game/etc. will take. Bit different from one fandom randomly deciding to hate on another without any actual incentive.
Be careful of what I say or what? Some SJW snowflake might get their feelings hurt? I didn’t say anything about liberals. I was talking about those on the left, ie the nuts at the universities.
Edited
If I’m saying something ridiculous it’s usually facetious.
It’s just one picture, it doesn’t mean anything.
You still act like it’s only/mostly the furries fault, but as I said there are plenty of bronies that were never involved with furries prior, and just hate them for no real reason either, so both sides just basically fling shit at each other, and creates more tension between both, as both feel attacked.
But it’s kinda pointless for us to keep debating about it as honestly, the “brony VS furries” B.S. isn’t that bad anymore, and as I said it’s nowhere near as slap-fight wars bronies have had with other fandoms, or even wars within the fractured brony fandom itself. (Like say bronies fighting with other bronies about “Twilicorn,” Starlight Glimmer, and such.)
The biggest fights I see bronies have is usually with other bronies.
@ABronyAccount
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, or not.
And I honestly haven’t seen much of this so-called “war.”

Never disagreed that fandoms have issues, or that bronies have their own problems. Just been pointing out - repeatedly - why bronies have justified problems with the furry fandom, and that furries really have no reason to be surprised by bronies’ attitudes towards furries. It’s churlish of furries to treat bronies like dirt, then expect to be blindly accepted by the brony fandom and simultaneously act offended and attacked when bronies tell them to rack off.
And yes, bronies have reasonable problems with the SU fandom and Tumblr users - but this picture isn’t saying, “Steven Universe, Tumblr and Bronies - Love and Tolerance is Magic”, is it?
No, Beau. You’re incorrect. We have always been at war with Beast-asia.
After all, they started it!
I just pointed out neither side was 100% welcoming, but that stuff I mentioned of bronies being unwelcoming to furries/anthro-art wasn’t always out of “reaction” to how theywere treated, but it usually occured in circles of bronies whom never even had bad experiences with furries, (or was even involved in the furry fandom prior to being a brony) and I’ve seen bronies say they used to hate furries just because it was “popular” online for alot of people to do so, and regret it now, due to the internetz treating bronies in a similar manner, as well.
Plus I’ve seen lots of MLP art by anthro’ artists that don’t get attacked by furries, so it’s not always common, even on some parts of FA.
(In fact, actually if you do a search, you’ll find lots of MLP fanart on FA, and fanart without insults/drama too.)
I think you, and I just seen different sides to this, but I don’t feel it’s entirely one side’s fault regardless.
Why don’t we just agree, that every fandom has issues, and just drop the debate?
Still the “bronies VS furries” thing was nowhere near as bad as the “bronies VS Stephen Universe fans” or “bronies VS Tumblr” incidents.
So furries weren’t even bronies “worst rival” as you claim, and others who’ve witnessed those events would definitely agree.
Edited
All of those things you listed, can easily be attributed to furries vehemently rejecting and mocking bronies early in the brony fandom’s inception. If furries had been even a little bit welcoming, there could have been a great deal of cooperation between the two fandoms. Instead, furries went out of their way to make bronies feel unwelcome, so bronies responded in kind - so of course the stuff that you listed ended up occurring. Why would bronies want to suddenly attempt to integrate a fandom that had nothing but contempt for them? So yes, for a number of years bronies were understandably very wary of anthro stuff and the risk of allowing furries into the fandom. It was a defensive response.
No offense, but judging the majority of anthro’/fur fans based on FA alone is kinda like judging all bronies on this site, or judging all anime/Sonc/ect. fans on DA. I’ve actually seen many anthro’ fans who dislike FA, and refuse to join it.
And as for furries or anthro’ fans getting triggered over MLP fanart, or ponifications, it’s not just them that do that, and I’ve seen the reverse case happen many times too. In fact, when a popular fan comic introduced the character Katrina (an anthropomorphic cat sorceress from the old ‘80s G1 MLP cartoon) alot of bronies were angered by the mere presence of a “furf**” in their precious MLP fan comics.
In the early days of the brony fandom, bronies that drew anthro’ ponies actually caught crap for it, and sites like Equestria Daily for a long time wouldn’t accept anthro’ MLP fanart, (and when EqDaily finally did, their comment sections BLEW UP with anger, and flames) and bronies would attack anthro’/furry fans, and try to troll them out ofthe brony fanbase too. So they’re honestly no better. While anthro’ pony art is a bit more accepted nowadays, there’s still drama over it in some brony circles, and a li’l even on this site too.
Regardless, I don’t think that speaks for a majority brony, or furry fan.
So I could just as easily point out similar hypocrisy in every fanbase frankly.
Edited
Oh, I’m not arguing bronies have their bad side, they definitely do. I’m just pointing out the hilarious hypocrisy that furries treat bronies like shit, then cry foul when bronies respond in kind.
And it’s not really cherry-picking - aside from the fact that FurAffinity is one of the largest concentrations of furries on the internet and thereby a fairly accurate sample pool from which to take data, if you go on furry Facebook pages you’ll face similar hostility if you dare post pony content. ||Hell, when Bad Dragon released Sugar Star the furries got mad about that, too. https://forums.bad-dragon.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=32379&start=20||
To be fair, the negative types are always the more outspoken ones, and actually there’s alot of FA artists who are bronies, and make lots of MLP fanart too.
So they don’t really speak for all of FA, or the entire furry/anthro’ fan community either. You’re kinda cherry-picking, much like how people cherry-pick nasty comments on this site to show how “bad” bronies are.
Not to mention, it’s not like bronies here are unbiased on this site. If you so much as mention something like “Sonic the Hedgehog” here, people lose their schmitz. I see bronies here act just as bad/biased, but I don’t believe all bronies are like that, especially sense I am a brony myself. (Honestly, I’m not really a “furry,” as I never really partook in that fanbase much, My screen-name & avatar come from an old StarFox OC I had as a kid on StarFox message boards.)

Well, it’s not like furries really made bronies feel very welcome in their fandom, did they? Love and tolerate might be trite, but it’s hard to “love and tolerate” a fandom that unabashedly loathes you.
It’s all cool, don’t worry about it.

@Beau Skunky
My god, people are actually still commenting on this old crap I made back in 2012? XD
Again please take this with a big grain of salt as I was new to the fandom when I made this, not to mention my autism was pretty bad back then… if that’s even an excuse.
Heh, still it was mega embarrassing to see this suddenly show up on Derp.
At least the comments are usually a fun read.
Same could be said for almost every fanbase, even bronies. Most people on this site are more liberal, so you might wanna be careful what you say. They’re not as extreme as the Tumblr MLP crowd though.
I think it differs for everyone, lately I’m meeting more annoying bronies, then bad furries, Harry Potter fans, Sonic fans, ect. fans.
Heck, on this site I feel constantly under attack for not having “popular opinions” (Like not hating things most bronies do.) or people taking my jokes 100% seriously. I’ve argued with bronies who feel justified with hassling (and I don’t mean merely “critiquing”) or speaking nasty of official show/comic staff. One brony here was giving me crap for liking Sonic awhile back. And I’ve been seeing alot of bronies saying perv’y, or questionable things, (Even on “safe” images here) that would make “furry fans” I used to know blush.
Honestly, bronies are really no better.
Edited
But the message is fine. Joke or not, I hang out with Bronies alsmost exclusively and find myself with so many friends, I get them mixed up or I forget about them. It’s literally too many for me to handle. I was used to having none before I came here.
Meanwhile in the furry fandom I tried to keep friends, but I’d offend them by accidentally saying they were a person and not an animal in real life. Or They’d be upset that I was against them using their brother’s toothbrush as a makeshift- oh wait this is a safe image. Point is that even when the bad parts of a group only make up 4% of it, one as HUGE as the furry fandom means that 4% is a much larger amount. I think sadly many of us have run into bad furries way more often than bad people in other fandoms. But I’ve grown up since then, and I know that branding any single fandom as bad or toxic or cancerous is just showing massive ignorance. Furries deserve respect too… Most of them at least.
@Background Pony #1DB4
Congrats on being the first and only to post an intolerent message here so far.
What is abhorrent to you is tame to another – what is tame to you is abhorrent to another.
I’be seen a lot of flame from some of the fandom against anthro versions of their ponies. Both on here and on fimfiction.
