They must have move on and some of there buildings left in ruins and some have to mine-ed the what is or what is left of the volcano because it was useful material for them… For example like buildings and road ways you name it now it abandon i think it was Viking mineing and farming company that they once worked in but now they moved somewhere safe that doesn’t threat them or put them in danger so they force themselves to move and some build Temples to remember them… Like one who used to lived in villages
