That said, I wouldn’t hold my breath. The Mane 6’s backstory was relegated to the comic books and those were disgustingly glossed over considering how much it shaped/fucked over some of them.

This part of the episode felt a lot like an episode of “Muppet Babies”. Which isn’t a bad thing, mind you.

She did break the seal and showed him the mirror pool as way to impress him. She did try.  
Only after Twilight gave her the green light did she try to impress Sunburst with cool magic. But it ended up freaking him out.  
Starlight relies heavily on survival instinct and always falls back on the things that worked in the past. She rarely wants to try new things–unless she knows beforehand that her chance of success is high.
 
Hence, she keeps going back to the one thing they had in common–it worked then, why would it not work now? But the idea that the only good thing that ever happened to her in the past, was her time with Sunburst…is very frightening.

This! Part of the reason I like to pair them up is just that they sort completeled each other, I just rewatched Celestia Advice episode and Twilight mentions that Sunburst knowledge if magic is only matched by Starlight’s ability. I do hope that someday Starlight will be sent to all three of those option, the latter mostly, because it’ll do something for her magical abilities

That’s part of what bugs me to be honest. Clearly shit basically snowballed, but it’d be really interesting to know more about what happened to her.

We know basically nothing about Starlight Glimmer’s life between the time Sunburst left her as a foal and we first meet her in “The Cutie Map”. Considering her idea of reconnecting with Sunburst was to turn them both into foals again, it strongly suggests she really doesn’t want to share that post-foalhood part of her life with anyone. We don’t know what she went through, but it couldn’t have been very nice.

Did anyone wonder why Starlight didn’t contribute or try to impress Sunburst with new interests of her own that he didn’t know about? Remember when he was impressed after hearing she traveled back in time? Not saying they should travel back in time but she could have impressed him using her magical abilities in other ways.

I think Starlight is cheating, way too many 6 rolls.

Also the same error as in the show.
