Nah, Starlight was being the dick imo.
I think he was being incredibly inattentive/oblivious, but wasn’t being intentionally malicious.
Yo
@Background Pony #2C8D
Well to be fair, that wasn’t the right spell to help with that dire situation.
He tore up all of Twilight’s hard work :’(
@MegaAnimationFan
He unceremoniously crumpled and tossed aside a scroll with all Twilight’s attempts at remembering the spell, when barely looking at it in his introduction episode. That’s being a dick, not this.
We had Discord almost send Tree Hugger to another reality.

Mysterious disappearance in that mare’s future.
I want to see a version of this episode where Starlight visits Sunburst in the Crystal Empire and Sunburst introduces Starlight to his friends. Or even worse. One of said friends is a mare that out right says she has a crush on Sunburst. Lol. Let’s see how THAT pans out.
Well if she said it like that then yeah. XD But she would most likely say that in a less awkward and straight forward way
I had the same idea but wouldn’t that sound awkward?
Starlight: Sunburst, I know my friends are cooler than me in every way possible and we can hardly remember anything about our childhood but I’d really appreciate it if you’d spend time with me and only me. No pony else.
Sunburst: …
Exactly. =)
Basically. Miscommunication is most personal problems in a nutshell.
It’s just the limitations of language and human communication - 80% of the time you had an entirely different conversation with someone than you think you had, it’s just in real life you never realize it, but in a show like this you see those effects more clearly and more often.
To be fair, this kind of stuff happens all the time in real life. As long as it’s believable in a sense and not contrived, it doesn’t bother me.

Something this show uses as a crutch rather often.
You basically hit the nail on the head.
With the exception of saying Sunburst was in the wrong, because I don’t think either one was in the wrong per se. Or at least completely. Yeah, Sunburst could’ve been more tactful and consider how Starlight might take him spending so much more time with her friends than her (thus inadvertently ignoring her) knowing how sensitive she is. But at the same time, Starlight could’ve just told Sunburst how she was feeling in the first place. Simple miscommunication/misunderstanding.
Sunburst was in the wrong imo
But being an actual “dick” means you have the intention of trying to screw someone.
He had his own faults. He probably didn’t have friends for himself as well, and just excited he finally has people to talk to about things he studied and loves that he ends up neglecting Starlight.
And it’s also realistic that good friends from long ago can drift apart in interests and hobbies. And the lesson being it’s fine as long as you are cool in each other’s company
or something like that
He was, wasn’t he. It took him a while but he’s just as afraid to not have Starlight be a part of his life as much as Starlight was afraid to not have him as a part of her life. I’m guessing they’ll always be insecure about their “friendship.”
He really was just being oblivious. Several times in the episode he tries to be really nice to Starlight.
Is that what really happened or is this gif edited in some way?
Sunburst cant be that much of a dick now can he?
But “dick” is such a strong word. I’d say tactless would be a more appropriate word. He didn’t mean any harm after all

The fact that he basically slammed the door on his childhood friend without hesitation is - while funny - a firm indication of dickery.
