It’s not so surprising, really. That armor, as well as jousting and general knightly stuff, was probably originated in the Pegasus race. Not only did Dash just ~~have~~ to pick Fluttershy as a jousting partner, not even considering any others, but also in Heart’s Warming Eve we see that the Pegasi were the only ones that wore armor.
