We have a little context from the show, in that she worked on the rock farm once, but there’s absolutely nothing that implies that she ran away or stole the money.  
What I’m saying is: the joke’s not funny.

“Jokes” like these work off of implication and interpretation. It implies that there is a reason, and it may be up to the reader to interpret as to what that is. Without knowledge of the source or artist, assuming that she doesn’t have an obligation to work on the rock farm is not necessarily the correct one as we have no context from either the show and within this comic the circumstances of what occurred there that could or could not lead to this situation. As such, the joke works, not because of “comedy”, but because there is an implied situation that we do not fully know of leading to an unexpected result and we are free to interpret what that situation is.
