That comes from the fact they had a male unicorn was in mind very, very early when writing up the idea of Boast Busters, but the creation of Trixie and her being put into that spot are not actully connected to that male unicorn.
Edited
Boast Buster’s was initially penned as having a male antagonist, but that was scrapped early on, and name or design was never stated anywhere. Was probably changed because having “Trixie” be male on top of the Snips and Snails, and Spike, would’ve basically made the episode one long rant about boys being mean and dumb.
Plus you probably couldn’t have a male humiliate a female on stage.
A claim was made that an early version of the Trixie character was supposed to be male and named Trevor (as in “Magical Trevor,” I guess), then changed to female. And, that particular place being the kind of place it is, they took the “sex-change” idea and ran it into the ground.
Bet she heard of the new Link summoning coming up in the next series.
Trixie played you like a fiddle, Celly.
