Well, that’s what identical means. No difference.
Don’t you mean it would make them the gende they want to be and not just make them look it? Unless the potion only caused cosmetic changes like a sex change operation in which case it would be absolutely worthless

There are probably more than a few in Ponyville. It’s a rural town but they exist in such places.

We know that lot’s of crazy things happen in Ponyville but The artist pretty much went “It’s also full of Transgender ponies! you shouldn’t be surprised,Tex!” it’s the whole “only in Ponyville” vibe that it bothers me.
Now if only they say “there are plenty of them in Equestria” would be more believable.
Because an accepting place like Equestria wouldn’t have a higher LGBT population than reality.
