But yeah, I’m sure I’m reading too much into it.
They seem to use her as an occasional sight-gag too. Some cases like the pizza gag, they didn’t even bother to hide her.
Her appearances are mostly a where’s Waldo gag as a fan favorited character.
This is what a lot of people don’t seem to consider. Granted it would have helped if they had made all the others taller to better drive home the point they didn’t actually know her for very long as a foal in the more advanced circuit.
That does make the context of the image make more sense
Rainbow at least is deliberately displaced in age group due to talent.
She’s a junior in a senior class.
I always thought of Spitfire, Soarin’ and Fleetfoot being at least a few years older than, say, Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust!
Aye, though looking at it now, the only friend she has is the good Doctor, with whom she is on hugging terms with. Not saying much in that aspect, mind you.
Fans used to commonly make her friends with Carrot Top. (AKA Golden Harvest.) Though, they never interacted in the show.

A blue-whale of a catch is “catching the impossible”, which is that the Derpiest, clutziest pone got one of the best possible “close friends”, being Dr Hooves himself. There are many jokes of the Doc with Rose, though he seems to have an adorable connection with Derpy being the only one we’ve seen him share affection with and vice versa.

I think that may have some connection with her ability to destroy town hall on accident.
Maybe she’s freakishly strong
