Well movie directors need to be prepared for anything… and somehow in EQG, they somehow have Power Pony comics? Yeah, screw it. This special was very confusing. Wouldn’t Humdrum be human too?
 
Let’s just say maybe she can grow her hair out fast too with her speedy powers… which is why her hair was long again after this? Like, her geode if she physically uses the magic for purposes besides going fast can also grow hair fast too. Idk how to explain it good enough. XD But yeah, Rainbow seems a bit too laid back to focus too much on the likes of her hair.
 
Hair is only a minor thing though, so we can easily just let this go I guess and just say that it’s plot convenience. Doesn’t really help as I said before that Rainbow Dash, Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Trixie, etc; have longer hair in EQG than their pony counterparts.

Actually, no. If you look back in previous movies, you’ll see her hair is indeed not extensions and the directors more than likely made her wear a wig for this scene since her hair was a bit too long to do a mowhawk with. (Plus, it doesn’t help that people like Pinkie Pie, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Trixie, etc; have way longer hair in Equestria Girls anyways, so it may also have to do with plot convenience.)
 
However, if you’re looking for real evidence that proves what I’m saying is right and that Rainbow doesn’t wear extensions, then I’d look at the following links.
 
Twilight would have noticed her extensions here and Rainbow wouldn’t be making this face either if this wasn’t actually hurting:

Extensions can more or less easily be seen without a ponytail or something to hide it and if those were extensions, she wouldn’t be swinging it around so because as far as I know, her extensions would not only be exposed here, but more or less ruined by all the shaking:

Actually, Spike the regular dog can talk because he passed through a stream of the Magic of Kindness.

Even if Dash’s hair looks shorter here, I just can’t see her as wearing hair extensions. She’s a tomboy. I could see Rarity or Fluttershy possibly doing that stuff though. Dash wouldn’t care less. Cartoon logic sucks. Let’s just leave it at there. More reasoning on that:
 
-Pinkie’s 4th wall breaking  
-Humans somehow get magic OP powers and can have strong enough friendship even from being friends for one day to defeat Sunset  
-Their music defeated the Sirens and they somehow have magical powers despite not originally being ponies  
-They can all run without falling over in heels (random, I know)  
-They all have waist length hair…FOR TOYS!  
-Spike goes through a mirror and can now somehow talk
 
I could go on and on. Also, I bet they can grow out their hair in a second like they grow tails because of THE MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP AND SH*T! XD
 
Also, I know I’m getting a bit random here, but this comes out in June just to clarify, right?
