Oh yeah, I guess I do remember that from some things I saw in my youth but haven’t seen for many years, due to things that’ve happened in the time since with such films I used to have/see. Although I was just wondering, since I did sort of make a valid point; even if I don’t expect the writers to suddenly add a king or a queen to the royal pony sisters in the show, if their parents were ever even immortal alicorns like them. Which in all honesty, I hadn’t thought about when I made that comment, so this is a possibility…
And yes, I know Ember’s now a Dragon Lord, but she DID used to be a princess and is even labeled as such, at least on this site. As I said before, but I guess unless on the sake of a technicality from a former label, she couldn’t be called a princess anymore like the other current princesses or how Blueblood is somehow a prince.
And how about that possible ship name I gave for these two? Anyone for “Flurryspike”, if not something shorter that’s kinda weird, like how Gilda/Ember is “Gember”? Although I think “Flurryspike” is simple and clear on what that pairing is… ;)
I don’t think it’s just Disney, many fairy tales, and folklore always have an “evil queen,” and “good princesses” which is why the term “queen” has such stigma in children’s media. I never understood it personally, as they’ve had good queens & kings in media, and history too, not just bad ones.
According to Lauren Faust, Celestia was originally going to be a queen.
Also, I see fans ’ship Spike with many characters (especially Rarity) despite his age. Many fans ’ship anything, and everything.
There’s a theory floating around that “Princess” has become associated with goodness and light, while “King” and “Queen” have become associated with evil due to Disney always having the princess be the heroine of the stories, often in opposition to a monarch. Hasbro went with this. I find this kind of sad, considering that IRL Queen Elizabeth II is perhaps one of the most respected and beloved figures in the world.
You’re right that the Spike/Flurry Heart ship doesn’t have a name. It’s probably due to them both being kids in canon, so there’s naturally not going to be much shipping of them. However, when they are aged-up there should be something we can call it. With the way dragons age, Flurry could “catch up” to Spike at a maturity level that would work for everyone.
Ember is a lord, not a princess.;)
@Beau Skunky
You forgot about (mimics former Dragon Lord Torch) EMBER! Unless you’re saying she’s not cute! o.o Or not counting her in the princess category anymore, since she was one only UNTIL she ascended to Dragon Lord and might be considered a queen then.
And speaking of, I’ve never thought about it much myself (even though someone whose work I’ve followed for years addressed it once in a variation of his story), but it’s weird how some creatures in the show’ve been referred to as “King” or “Queen” (usually when they’re villains, but not in the case of the former griffon kings in Griffonstone). And yet the good rulers aren’t technically queens? I don’t know what THAT’s about, unless it’s explained in something I likely have never read/seen (like a lot of the IDW comics I’ve never made time towards reading). Just saying!
