I honestly can’t help getting this feeling whenever I see most of these “half r63 shipping” shipping pictures, since they’re near always employed to display as straight a pairing that would otherwise be m/m or f/f. It’s like acknowledging their chemistry but refusing to accept them as a couple unless one’s a man and the other’s a woman.

If this picture was, for example, portraying not just two, but four potential versions of the pairing (m/m, f/f, m/f and f/m), then I’d agree with you, but it’s ONLY showing the two straight alternatives, both from a ship of two female characters by canon’s defining. Portraying someone in a straight relationship is by no means heteronormative de facto, but portraying only the straight alternatives in what essentially constitutes as replacing the original, f/f relationship? That feels heteronormative bordering on homophobia.

I don’t see anything heteronormative here and I’m full-on bi. Now I like my yuri/yaoi and bisexual pairings, sure, but showing somepony as straight doesn’t mean it’s heteronormative de facto. It simply means the artist chose to portray them as straight. And this coming from someone who has grown to like the “rarijack” shipping.
