This is starting to sound like all the efforts made to turn Conan the Barbarian into a “real” hero, and forgetting that in the original stories he was very much an anti-hero. In one story he sneaks off after the captain of the pirate ship he ended up on (and where he was treated decently) plainly and simply to murder the guy so he can seize command of the ship!

It wasn’t that bothersome in the fanfic because after all, it’s only playing out the same logic as its source shoot-‘em-up video game.  
Where it got painful was the author’s blog where he rejects the anti-hero label and makes various apologetics like “a hero doesn’t have to care about being a good person” and such crap. Kind of a “wait, you were serious” moment.
 
And yeah that last chapter was very ugh! to read, I mean fine so a not-quite-hero does her adventure like she wants but then suddenly the whole world must reaffirm her rightness, yeah not believable.  
It’s kinda funny how the fanarts cutefy it as usual (though I bet most artists never read it in the first place, which is fine).

It’s probably worth pointing out to that as Apocalyptic literature goes, it’s almost in line with westerns. As in it’s the main character vs the world as a sort of tale about the individual’s strength and endurance. Although that bit is played down a bit as far as FoE goes to accommodate for the strength and endurance of friendship(s).
 
But as far as the literary tropes go, for the genre and for the action-genre over-all the relative difference in kill counts doesn’t really matter when the ethics card is pulled.

That’s what I mean. She kills a lot, and I mean a lot, and almost reflexively so. That’s not exactly good.
 
On the other hand like 90% or so of her victims are demonstrably deranged, sick, dangerous, monsters, or-what-have-you. Commonly some combination of that. So getting rid of them is not exactly bad.
 
It evens out is what I’m saying.

Do you have a particular example? Most of the ponies she killed were murderers with less-than-pure intentions. That she wiped them off the map so they wouldn’t kill again hardly seems like something that is inherently bad…?

Yep, the ponies of Arbu were pretty deplorable, with how they (grimdark) regularly murdered ponies so they could sell them as meat to roving traders. It was especially bad how they managed to feed a orphaned foal parts of his father about a day after the foal had witnessed his father’s death while his father had been fighting Arbu’s security force. But what really made them despicable is how they (grimdark) played up the whole “poor starving village” routine to convince LittlePip to negotiate water talismans from the local Steal Rangers. Especially considering that that negotiation (that Pip had hoped would end without fighting) eventually ended in significant casualties that made her feel like shit.

Oh right Arbu. Because it’s not like she already had a high bodycount long before then. Her many self-righteous killing sprees of murderers and despots before and after was A-Okay, but not that self-righteous killing spree of murderers and despots.

Dang, I was going to come in and point out just how much this story had been misrepresented by the gaggle of vague anti-Littlepip statements, but you seem to be doing a good job of that already. This is good to see. :D

I get pointing out how Littlepip is your typical Wild West action hero, but that apologist routine for no-name mooks sounds like something straight out of Pannic’s blog.

Now I just want to take a look at this story from a different angle. And it seems that there are some people here who share my point of view.

Text aside, Littlepip’s expression is hilarious and wonderfully disturbing.  
“Ooh! Are you a good pony…..or a bad pony?” in a creepy, cheerful voice.

If you really wanted to question the morality of her actions there are much better examples in the story.
